I managed to flip my log splitter over this past weekend moving it with the skidsteer and broke some fittings off the valve. It has motivated me to finally get in gear and build a log lift for it. It's an Northern Hydraulics horizontal spiltter from the early 80's with a 8hp HM80 Techumseh. Guessing 10-13 gpm.

Question: I have a 3/4" in and out with 1/2 ports for the ram currently with an open center and detent.

Plan is to add another 3/4" and 1/2" detent valve but set the relief a lot lower for the log lift and leave the relief on the splitter ram set higher.

Question 2: What size ram did you use or does yours have on the log lift? I was thinking a larger bore so that it doesn't lift too fast.

You can put a restrictor in the flow circuit to the lift ram, that would be simpler and cheaper than an over sized cylinder. or use 1/8 -1/4 " line same effect.
