I ordered five of NNZ's log-lift bags to make sure they would be a good "fit". I was curious how they might fill setting on the ground. You definetly need to have them hung a little to get a 1/3 of a cord in them. Sure happy we bought a tractor! I think when hanging them as well you only want them suspended a few inches so when you get a layer of wood in there the bottom sits on the ground and flattens out. Otherwise I believe things would be pinched and you would not get enough wood in the bag for a full 1/3 cord, you will also probably endup with leaning bags as the bottom will not be flat. They are well built and I do believe wood will season in these much faster than it would in a stack. The bottom of the bag is also mesh so when you get a heavy rain it has an escape,
I have a plan to test this, should be interesting. We take delivery of our wood start of June, it is green wood. When we start processing I'll mark and place a split or two in the middle of the first couple bags. End of September I'll dig those pieces out and see where they are at.
I am not sure I want to deal with pallets, I would like to put each bag on one. But this year the plan is ~80 bags, next year maybe 200, it's a lot of pallets.
Make it a fair test with results both ways. One of those bags filled with splits and then a stacks of splits stored in same area.
I was worried you were going to say that, I thought I was done with stacking $15 CAD. They seem to hold up pretty well from what I can find, they last 3-4 years under heavy use.
Ventilated bulk bags for wood logs, Log-Lift® | NNZ Canada You would probably deal with the Ontario office, ask for "Will" great guy to deal with. (519 863-5782). Yes, I agree. There is a large seller in Ontario who keeps a store of 200 bags outside, this is where I got the tarp idea, works well for them so I figure I'll give it a shot. If I find it does not perform like I want I'll go on the great pallet hunt or come up with some other way to elevate them. Interesting, I may try this, thanks for the suggestion!
I have seen them popup a few times over the last few weeks. I'll have a looksee tonight, what do you usually pay for them? Edit: Had a quick look on FB marketplace and see some in town about 20 min from me:
No experience with them here and most sellers I've talked to prefer the IBC totes over them. With time and experience you should find a way that fits your needs. Do you have access to plastic pallets Nord?
I thought about totes, but I really want to completely elimimate stacking from my workflow as it is a lot of time that could be put to better u$e. I wish I had access to plastic pallets, but unfortunately the only ones I have seen are quite expensive.
The guy I cut for part time loves the IBC's as he stacks them three high with his bobcat. They are loose filled off a conveyor. He said he tried the bags but were logistically more difficult to fill vs the totes. Being a small time seller with little room I do it the hard way...stack and top cover.
