Just got a call back from a local logger, he’s willing to drop a load of log length. 18 cords for 1800 dollars. Any thoughts, seems a little expensive? Where in the Rockies so it’s all ponderosa and Doug fir.

Do you know the going rate in your area? Is the price negotiable?

Kinda seems like the going rate across the board here regardless of location and species.

A $100 a cord and you don't have to travel or scrounge any of it. You would be able to work on it anytime you wanted. For us who have to really travel to scrounge or harvest, it sounds like a deal.

$100/cord seems to be a pretty common number for people on this site buying log loads

Sounds fair. Think of all the wear and tear on equipment and labor involved in getting that volume of wood otherwise. The amount of time it would take would be astronomical. Unless you have a large processing area and tree services lined up to drop of straight logs it sounds like a ok deal.

$100.00 per cord triaxle load is the average here.

That would be expensive up here, but our immigrants will pay that much. As an ex logger, I know how expensive insurance, diesel, oil, hydraulic fittings, permits, and various taxes are. I figure it honestly costs me about 20 dollars a cord to go up and cut and haul out one true cord of fir. But if you don't have a truck, felling skills, and the work ethic it would be better to just buy it. Burning twelve to 15 cord of wood saves me 7200.00 bucks a year.

I'm ~20 miles from town, highway so pretty fast, but pay delivery fee for almost everything. I too know understand how much it costs and don't blink, especially for the heavy trucks like the 3 cord dump truck and 1/2 semi of logs.

IRRC my logs were 8-10 cords, $1K and $100 travel fee.

Hi Joe! I'm north near Casper, WY but look at buying wood down as far as Denver. That is a very fair price. Up here, it's $120 per cord for Ponderosa or Lodgepole.

Hi Joe!! Nice to meet you. I lived in Bellvue for 21 years, I miss it so bad. Anyway the only choice we had was lodgepole pine. Worked just fine. What happened to the lodgepole, all logged or burned from pine beetle and High Park fire?

Joe, do you cut on your own property? Just mentally remembered where Bellvue was, I lived in Fort Collins for several years before moving up to Douglas.

Jim, he lives a few hours south, not sure a seller would drive that distance.

I should have looked at a map before I posted, the op is in your backyard.
It will make Cash feel all warm & fuzzy that he was thought of though.

No worries, I don't know other states either, nor do I live there anymore.

And here I though I was getting a good deal getting two side dumps of wood like this.

About 5 1/2 cord (by volume) per trailer. I’m paying $1600 for both loads.

I think the 100.00 fuel surcharge is pretty reasonable too.

Ha ha. Thanks, buddy! Made my day!

I do think that $100 a cord dropped at your house is a fair price. I think about all the wear and tear on my truck, trailer, saw, body etc. plus the cost of fuel - and even my time. Seems like a good deal to me, if I was in the market to buy wood.

He's dropping 18 cords in ONE load? That's tough to estimate how many cords you're getting isn't it?
