Sawing logs at ground level is hard on my back and rolling them over to cut the backside is no fun either.
I used one of these that a friend lent me a few years ago and have been meaning to get one ever since.
If I remember right, his didn't raise up as high. Looks easy enough to lower it if I need to.
It seems to be tough, handle is 2" thick.
    $60 at TSC.

I love the cant hook I got with the log stand. Makes my chains last longer and it sure is easier on the back

I use mine mostly for the peavey/ cant hook utility and sometimes for the stand.

I used Northern Tool at the time. If you have a peavey already I'd pass. If you don't, then this will kill 2 birds. I wouldn't purchase solely as a timber jack, as its not as practical as it looks (read: need flat ground, no obstructions, and properly sized/ shaped wood.)

Bought it for dual purpose. I've used one before so I understand what their limitations are. I used a small piece of 3/4" plywood as a base when the ground wasn't stable and that worked well.

I have the same one, and it works great. The largest diameter tree that I've used it on was only about 20".:dremel:

I've been back and forth on whether to get a peavey or cant hook. I was sold because I borrowed a peavey when I just worked a bunch of logs. I keep reading a cant hook is a little better for firewood cutting but it's really nice to be able to just jam the peavey in the ground and not have to bend over to pick it up as well as not look all over the ground for it.

Tried it today and it worked well, but it seems like it jacked the log up too high. I'll use it again on my next run and then decide whether I'll cut it shorter.

I definitely need to shorten the foot on mine, but otherwise it's come in pretty handy so far.

I use one of those and love it,.. but got even more creative or lazy, made one that slides in the reciever of the truck puts it up to waist height. Never a chance to run your bar in the sod.

For smaller limb wood, the bigger stuff still gets the peavey

Good day hoarders, good news I got my log jack
    Peavey Manufacturing Company - Timberjack
I am glad I got it second hand as I think I would be disappointed if I paid full price.
There is a lot of play where the hook and the stand bolt on. Is this by design to have a lot of play? It does work ok. I think a larger jack platform would be better. But we'll worth the price I paid for it.
