First lodgepole haul of the season. The snow has finally melted at higher elevations allowing me to get back to work. I'd say from last year to this year, it seems about 2% of trees seem died off during the winter or got broken from storms. I spent some time tackling trees that were hung up or broken into other trees, probably too difficult for most people cutting in the area. I changed my truck sides this season so each row is a 1/4 cord and it brings the weight to the center better. Hoard on!
I love Lodgepole for firewood. That is quite the haul, does your half ton handle it okay? Just seeing those pics I can almost smell it! Around here I have to go up to 6000-8000' elevation to get into Lodgepole. Is it the same in WY?
It handles it fine, it's mostly gravel road from my house up into the national forest. Most of what I'm aiming to find is in the 6-8% MC so it's very dry with not much water weight. I definitely hauled more than I should have yesterday because about 1/4 cord was green downfall from winter storms. This was at 8,000 feet. I'd say that elevation plays a part in finding Lodgepole but also the region you are in too. I can go east 15 miles and it's all Ponderosa.
