I was looking around craigslist last night and found a duel work light on a stand for $15 bucks 10mins from my house, so I messaged him this morning and he still had it, so picked it up tonight. Miss redneck is working her overtime tonight so it's just me here, so I figured I would try it out... And what else is there to do at 7pm on a single digit night(8F right now going down to 2F) then fire up the saw and work on cutting wood. The light works awesome, but it didn't take long into cutting to find out my chain needed a lot of love so didnt get near done what I wanted to. But brought the saw into the basement and went to town on the chain, cleaned out the gulets, sharpened and filed down the rockers. Should be all set for tomorrow night now. There is about 9 cord in the pile there, I have a goal to get it all cut, split and stacked before next week as I have a lot of cutting in the woods I want to get to before it snows a ton. Should cut much better now... (Yes I am getting a new bar soon)
In the past, I noticed that I tended to stop working when it got dark. In my frustrations of not getting enough done, I am making a conscious effort this year to work like its summer. Those lights are great! Illuminating your work area and not just a spot light on what you are doing helps a lot. I found a shop light head lamp that I wear everywhere after 5pm. That and there is nothing better than a sharp chain.
Unfortunately with my job by the time I get home and spend some time with miss Redneck I do most my chores in the dark, I use to have a headlamp like that I used all the time. it's really easy to get far behind on projects in the winter when it gets dark by 5, so like you this winter I'm trying to not quit so early and just keep going in the dark. And yes I love a sharp chain, I was kicking my self for not sharpen the chain before I went out tonight, but it should really eat some wood tomorrow.
Looks like fun. I hate the lack of daylight myself but we adapt and overcome. Reminds me of years back when i owned my house. Id rig my two 18V Dewalts gooseneck flashlights and split/stack by the light. First cold snap in December and id be loving it. Dunno if id like single digits though. Neighbors mustve though i was nuts.
