Good morning all! Hope you’re all enjoying life. Going to reach 72* today here in NJ. Found this little bugger in some poplar I was splitting yesterday. Any ideas? Thanks FHC!
I've seen them dozens of times over the years...they move on (or die) after you split/stack and the drying process begins. My neighbor heats with wood too, and has a bunch of chickens...he said any time he runs into these guys, or ants, the chickens come running! I cut up a standing dead Oak earlier this year that had a bunch of woodpecker holes in it...these guys were in the tree
Flat head borers, beetle grub. They get in the wood after it's cut down, before CSS. CHICKEN candy...some I found one day splitting...chickens were running track when I dumped this pan in there...
Be a big ol billy bad a $$ and make us a video of you eating them there grubs just like they do on the survival shows!
