Im in the market for a laser powered straight edge tool... Im fixin to lay down about 25' of E track in my new enclosed trailer and am having a hard time keeping it all straight.. Im using a handful of new 5' sections.. Looking for a straight edge that is in laser form that i can place at one end of the interior of my trailer, beam the light to the other end and have a straight line that i can place my E track sections down against. Who knows what im yackin about?!
Something like this... maybe i can stick this to the ceiling and shoot down a line of light onto the floor?
piece of string it has worked for 100 years. or chalk line use blue chalk red will stain. If you just want a new toy Lowes has many lasers for what you want to do. you will probably have to close the trailer door and work in the dark though. if you are putting e track on the walls they also sell a cheap rotary laser for that.
Yeah i want a new toy lol This wont be a one time use type of thing, i know i'll use it again. The one i have linked, will work with putting e track on the walls also.
When I put E track in my trailer i just cut sticks at the height i wanted it and set the track on top of them and screwed it to the walls
^This is a great idea. A laser level would require the trailer to be dead level for the walls or the tracks will be off to some degree.
That's what I'd buy. I have a black and Decker laser level that I use all the time. Mine just does horizontal lines though.
Figured out what i need.. Its a laser level for doing tile work. However, i went to lowes lastnight as the local store is just 3 minutes from my house.. Bought a crapsmen laser level, not for tile work, its alright but its not going to work for what i need. Undecided on keeping it or not... Handy to have, another tool in the tool box for hanging pictures or shelves.. it also has a stud finder built into it.. Ive got it zip tied to a ladder and have it angled down at my floor. It produces a straight line but it becomes very faint after about 10' and towards the end of the 10' it is very inaccurate. Ive got 1 row of E track layed out the way i want it, ended up just using a tape measure off the wall for each piece. Took a while but i got a few pieces layed out. Working on tracking down hardware today. Got to do some shopping around to try and find a store locally that sells thick, 1/4x1.5 or 2" x 1/8" thick or so fender washers. On the underside of the trailer, where the E track isnt inline with a cross member, im going to back it with a piece of 1/4" thick x 10" long aluminum angle. Not sure if i'll do the whole run like that or do a piece of angle and then the next pair of bolts ill do fender washers, not sure. I figure this stuff out as i go.
I got this for jacking and straightening out post & beam barns. Not great in sunlight. Big time saver, relatively low cost.
floor is 3/4 dry max. Used Grade 8 1/4" bolts, Grade 8 1/4" washers, Grade 8 2" fender washers and grade 8 lock nuts. Where i couldnt tie into a crossmember, i simply used 2" fender washers. Where 2 pieces of E track met, i used a 1/4" thick aluminum plate to join them together under the deck. Job is done. i put down about 35' of E track. Actually finished lastnight. Turned out alright, im sure there is a wiggle or a wave here and there as i used six total 5' sections and two 34" pieces i cut. hard to keep everything perfectly straight with just an eye ball and a tape measure. I did buy a chalk line but i never even used it.. I had the passenger side down last week and then i started shopping for a new trailer.. Yikes. Decided to keep what i have, havent owned it 4 months yet.
