Adhesive should be any appropriate stove gasket cement/adhesive. The trick is to carefully clean the surface before applying. I think we've replaced ours twice in 32 years of service. In contrast, I've replaced my Avalon twice is 3 years!

Thanks! The new cat and gasket is here....still in the box.... I still cannot get to the stove due to our home remodel delays, but I plan on replacing every gasket I can in the very near future. Its going to be cold tonight (insert shivering smiley guy) so I wish I could start the old :firepit: I am also armed with various household & beauty items and duct tape to vacuum out the great stove that still works despite many years of renters who used it before we bought the home:yes:

Hey WW... where are you now on the remodel schedule? I read you slept on the hard floor with the skunky smellin' dogs as it was warmer. That had to be fun. You within a couple weeks anyway?

Tell me how much your wife and you love your remodel!

Our remodel will not be complete til we get the rest done next summer. We focused on the main room this summer as it was the worst offender with heat leaks and where we plan to spend most our time. We still have kitchen cabinets to hang and pergo to lay (who am I kidding?, poor hubby will be doing most it since I have mobility issues). It will likely be done on snowed in days this winter. The correct replacement pipe parts arrived today to install the pellet stove, heat is the last necessity to be met. I am crossing my fingers we will be back in the house this weekend:thumbs:

We will move back in as is. Ok with a microwave, bathroom sink, toilet and heat! And what a relief to have the washer and dryer within reach!!!! We added a 2000 sq ft addition to a small cabin in 1998 so I have realistic timeline expectations... Especially for dear husbands schedule. He has a demanding job, does the grocery shopping, toddlers daycare rides and is a hands on father <3 Also, if you can't tell, I don't stress about most things:dancer:

"Our remodel will not be complete til we get the rest done next summer." ... I told my wife, she just said, GAWD...
And yes... we LOVE the new look of our lil ranch. I'm sure your remods will be worth it too. Might even be sweeter because of the added time?

You guys must be a bit older than my wife and I when we were doing kinda the same thing. I was 22, wife 24, 1st baby on the way. Built our 1st house with my Dad, he was the world's best helper. I had never built even a shed. 6 months and we were in... lots of hammering... no air nailers in 1978, roof shingled, tar paper on the outside, silver "wallpaper" inside (insulation), Ashley woodstove in the basement, old free used elec heat panels in all rooms, one bathroom with a cardboard door, kitchen sink with stove and frig, no driveway (400' across field)... and we loved it. Best time of our lives. The adventure of it all kept us pumped all the time. We learned what we really needed vs want we wanted... fast.

As I've said before, I'm gonna enjoy your adventure a lot. How old are your kids? Our kids remember those times in that house now very fondly. Bet yours will too.

    Stay warm.

Help? Trying to replace the cat............. I can't get the thermostat pipe off. I am down to the thermostat knob. Does anyone know how to remove the thermostat dial? Do I need to remove it to get the thermostat pipe out..........................in order to get the cat heat shield off to then replace the cat? DH is going pick up ANOTHER new set of allen wrenches on friday, how is it possible for us to lose 2 sets in 1 year :picard: I now see the dislodged heat sheild in the pic, it looked like firebrick when I was in there, either way I will put it up again. Throwing in the towel. We give up. This sturdy ol stove is need of someone with more experience. This is not our main heat source and I am partial to the idea of a plain woodstove, no cat....

Any one up to fixin' her, come and get it :)

nate see two posts above this one. I found someone that might want it. We are not in a position to repair it, what do you think?

I'm not sure how those older Blaze Kings were setup. Might be worth calling them an dseeling if it's worth fixing.
