Anyone watch Life below zero? If I'm right, probably MOST of us do! Anyway, was watching an episode last night where Andy had to go get some Firewood, so he grabbed his Stihl saw and low and behold it looks like it has the MasterMind sticker on it! Those stickers must be for sale everywhere!!!
They cover up anything with a brand on it in that show. Pay attention to their bars....there will be tape over the manufacturer name as well as the model/make tags on the saws are too (clutch cover, etc. The French (Canadian?) guy cracks me up. Won't buy a chain saw, but has a suppressor on his rifle. WTF
I noticed that suppressor too! Funny thing is, he uses a chainsaw chain, to cut tree's down sometimes. He just pulls the chain back and fourth with his hands.... But then again, where would he get gas from? He's nowhere near anything. The rest of the folks are all surprisingly close to towns/stores/gas stations.... but he is truly way out in the woods....
I love all those shows. I am an expert on Them all. I like Andy's 2210 Yanmar as well. I think its just an oval dealer sticker. Ask Mastermind I am sure he would know if he did his saw. I think its a 260/1? But he could of bought it used on AS or something I watch every show like that one every episode. I am a self professed reality tv whore. I love it all.
I think Andy must of done well in life. Maybe a success full business man and sold it? But I think he has been there 30 years or so? Maybe he is just family money rich? All that stuff he has is expensive. Esp up there!!! He says he is a carpenter and does odd jobs for people I think like houses. I dont really know how far he is from work. Maybe he goes there for a few months? But where does his money to buy all that stuff come from???
If I could get a gig on a show like that I'd have money to buy nice stuff too. Now to just find my niche.
Google says he was a river boat captain on the Yukon for 20 years.... He met Kate in 2003 while she was visiting.
i read somewhere he was a tug or barge captain, dont know if its true and he teaches wilderness living to paying guests .
I also doesn't cost much to live in the woods! Bring a saw, some gas, an old 50 year old tractor, a small outboard motor and build a house. Food is free, no bills, buy parts and gas now and then. You could live on a small savings for a long time.....
The guy has a dozer. It would cost a small fortune to buy that and get it to where he lives even if it is 40 years old. Shipping is $1 pound they say. They dont show him gardening much. Some and they have one but doesnt look huge. Solar panels are pricey and to get them up there. Stuff costs double up there in the bush. The big cities not really.
There is a TON of older tractors, bulldozers, large machinery in Alaska available from old mines and old homesteads.... The Kilcher guy got on his tractor on the show once and said he traded it for "a small pile of old used lumber" 20 years ago. Lots of that goes on up there... Buying new or from the mainland is another story, of course. Gas is $25 a gallon or something in some of the rural area's I've herd. I need to visit Alaska!!
I dont think its $25. I think the yukon mines pay $8 gallon for diesel. Thats canada I know but right up the yukon river. In life below zero I think they said $5-12/ gallon for gas if I remember . I want to go there as well. Maybe when I retire. I won't have the money or time before that I doubt.
