I put a fireplace together quickly last week so we could have a fire. I want to build permanent fireplace for grilling and relaxing by the fire. I'm just looking for ideas. Thanks!

Thanks for the thread, WWW is looking for ideas for a bbq/fire pit on the new patio. I REALLY like what FarmHand78 did in his new patio, but not ideal for our situation. Have you seen his patio thread, its

My wife DECIDED this is what she wanted. I dry stacked the firebrick, in case she changed her mind. Will get skirted with River Rock soon.
Been waiting since completion on Sunday afternoon to torch this thing:

And after 2 days of rain and some sunny breezy weather today:

My wife did a great job. The build shall be chronicled in a thread, 'cos Harvey the Avatar dog had to help dig.....

Is there anything she doesn't do? You got her running the saw now, you had her carrying in the wood last winter. You better be treating her to an out to dinner every once in while. :whistle:

Here are some pics of my pit. A couple of them show a rock that started melting/disintegating back into sand. I have lost a lot of rocks in my big fires. I burned 92 pallets one night, the coals were six feet high, 3 days later when they burned down the rocks were....gone. I lose more rocks that way.  One pic is an action shot of a little fire. DSCN1082.JPG DSCN1083.JPG DSCN1084.JPG DSCN1085.JPG

I attended a campfire gathering like that last summer.

Just a little something to take the chill out of the night air....for about 50' in every direction.

Yup, that's a good one right there. That's kind of how my rocks crack/split & turn to sand in the 1st photo
