I bought one of these (Coaxer Call) we'll see if I can get one to come in during the day. I'm hoping to have it by next Saturday.
I went out this morning with the idea of using the call in two areas, the first area I didn't bring in one yote so I went to my second area. When I made a right to go to my second area I noticed all the deer just resting on the hill so I called it a day, hopefully tomorrow morning turns out different.
I decided to have a second cup of coffee this morning before going out, I was almost done when I see the coyote coming across our ridge in the back so I got out there in about 5 minutes, the yote never came back. I was up an hour earlier today thinking the yote would be back, I won't have the second cup tomorrow morning. I did go back in with the call for over an hour, nothing again today. We had tracks heading off our property to the west, north and south, just some pictures of the tracks.
I bought an electronic call last year and haven't had the time to go out yet when conditions were right. Good luck...and take a thermos next time
I plan on taking some coffee or soup back in this afternoon, once you get a chance to use that electronic call, tell me what you think about it.
I use a FoxPro and I also use the Verminator Tweety and Psycho Tweety. Had really good luck using both. Do you have any howls on your electronic ?
I spent another hour working the call (it's getting better) but still no results. I started looking for possible dens on the way out, this is in the side of a hill close to water.
I never did get out early this morning but after cutting some wood, I found what I think is another den.
I did get out before sunrise this morning hoping the yote would be walking his ridge, nothing but deer watching me.
I spent sometime out back this morning (without the call) nothing running the ridge this morning. We had some fresh snow overnight so I was checking for tracks in the areas that the coyote had been in the past, nothing.
Zap, this is probably a stupid question but are you keeping the wind in your face? Once a yote knows he's being hunted, they get alot smarter. Also, stinky rotten chicken as bait works wonders. Calls not so necessary at that point if the bait is upwind of them, and out of your scent cone. The call can be used to bring them to the bait and when he smells bait, he should come in to investigate with no calling, and less chance of you educating him.
I haven't seen any coyote tracks in 2 or 3 weeks so today what shows up, the fox. He was on the south side of our house for about five to 10 minutes. Since I've stopped cutting the camera batteries haven't been charged so no picture. Usually if you have coyotes around the fox leave the area so maybe this is a "GOODER" sign.
I ran into a neighbor at the Post Office, he was telling me a person who lives nearby shot two Coyotes on the ice (river) maybe that's why I haven't seen any tracks lately.
After talking with my neighbor the coyotes are back, I have until the 27th of March to get one or two. After someone shot two on the ice about a month ago things were good.
