So a big oak fell in our neighbor's yard last week during the "snow-pocalypse," I was talking to him yesterday and he offered me to cut it up if I wanted to use as fire wood. Of course, I was all "heck to the yeah I would!" I went out this morning to pick off some leaves because I wasn't sure what type of oak it was (was thinking it was a water oak at first glance b/c it was right there next a small creek that runs behind our properties). Once I got to looking at the leaves I wasn't sure. Was hoping some of you guys might be able to help me identify. These three leaves are all from the same tree...
Its some sort of red oak. Maybe Yawner knows. He's not far from you. T.Jeff Veal can chime in too. He cuts a lot of oak. Great score BTW Jeremy Anthon Wanna see follow up pics.
Welcome to the club. Lots of great folks here sharing knowledge and humor. That is a great score, especially since it's in the neighbor's yard. I first thought water oak by the bark, but the leaves aren't right. Favors the Shurmard too. And the southern red oak. Definitely in the red oak family. Will be some great BTU's.
