My friend’s basement flooded due to a leaky valve. I would like to install a valve that shuts off the supply water to the house if a leak is detected. They have wireless sensors you can place in your basement. I need one for my basement as well. Has anyone had any experience with these? Maybe TurboDiesel? Thank you folks!
Following. I used to shut the well pump off when we left for extended periods. Now we have chickens and I leave it on for the neighbor kid to water them.
I do the same thing. There may be enough water for the chickens in the system with the pump off, or maybe store water in a pail for the chickens?
You can use zwave for this. Some water sensors trip, and that triggers an event that turns off a zwave enabled valve you plumb in.
With any of these leak protection valves, whether they are electronic, or spring loaded mecanical valves, they need to be exercised if they are expected to do their job when/if the times comes...if they sit there for years without moving, they won't do their job when needed...stuck, solid...or just won't seal shut if it does move.
This should be done on every valve you can find. Especially the valves behind toilets and under sinks ect. You might just find them stuck.
My neighbor has one. And we put a leak sensor at the church after the last big flood. (It will call me and the pastor) I'll get some info gathered ...
This is a well monitor that i heard about recently. (It's more for protecting the well pump from high amp and run dry, rapid starts)
This moen brand looks pricey, but it will send you alerts and allow you to turn the water off remotely through a cell fone app
I use the graph from my real time electricity monitor to shame her. Compare how long the water heater has to run after her shower to mine and the wife's. The guilt doesn't last too long though. The water heater after her shower is at the 1500 hr mark.
You and the wife showering together (To save energy .... right?) just might be what got you into this mess!
