We needed two more rows to fill Granny's wood shed so yesterday and today we went wood gathering. Campinspecter found the rest of the Douglas fir log we got earlier so we started to work on it. Looking at it laying on the road, I was wondering if we would get it all in. I decided to take some video so here is the bucking part. When we got to the splitting part, I was trying to capture the sound of that first nice POP that fir makes when the splitter goes down on it. I don't think it comes across very well. Well, surprise, surprise - it all fit into the back of the truck. With a little extra room so we went and found a couple of rounds to fill the back. The supervisors were right on the job today. I get the impression that picture taking was interfering with the supervising. On the way up to the wood cut I spotted some yellow flowers so on the way home, we stopped and I took some pictures. You don't see these very often around here especially as the season is so short but I think they are roundleaf violet. Took an sea voyage to Granny's and now her shed just needs one more load.
Day two started with a light frost on the ground but clear sunny skies so off we went again to see if we could get that last load for Granny. Campinspecter cut a small round out of this and it was good to go. Found another one like it and the truck was full again. The supervisors decided as it was so sunny and nice, they would actually get out and look around. On the way home, I tried to take a couple of pictures from the moving truck through the nose printed window to show you that we are getting snow on the hills around here. It is too late to be any benefit and will be gone quickly. A quick shot of where the wood is going to end up as we cross the bridge on the way home. The island is the dark blue at the end of the river. All the work they did was exhausting so on the way home, my lap was occupied.
You guys have the coolest set up! I really enjoy your pictures and posts. Beautiful country & happy dogs!
So the final picture of the day. A full wood shed getting ready for 2017. Thanks for all the likes and comments.
Good hard work but when you see the wood shed full it is so rewarding. Thanks for sharing your journey
My wife says, "Bless Granny and those 2 wonderful people who keep her supplied." Then I showed her the pictures. She love it! btw, Woodwidow, we still have no flowers here. Crocus are showing signs they might come up after all.
Campinspecter had to salvage this shed as it was falling down. She has three more outside sheds and a couple of long ones attached to the garage. She used to go through a lot of wood before she got the new furnace that Campinspecter installed. http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/index.php?threads/wood-furnace-install-part-1.758/ http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/index.php?threads/wood-furnace-install-part-2.759/ Now she goes through less wood and the furnace burns longer on each load. By the way, Campinspecter has about 28 cords stacked up for her and 10 cords stacked for us. Truly a Firewood Hoarder Psycho!
