Some of you may have seen my posts about this scrounge elsewhere, but I wanted to share some pictures here. I spent about a year working on this Sandy victim. It came down to this. I was hoping it would stand back up, but no luck. I told the homeowner that I'd cut it as close to the roots as possible. She has a guy who says he can do something with it to an excavator. He will need a big one and I am happy not to be a part of that operation. I had a friend come and help with his 3120 XP to help. Action shot. Cut it into cookies, busted them up and left them in the woods. Too big, too heavy, and too far down in a hole to be firewood.
I'm just crazy enough I'd be hoofin' those smaller pieces back up to that car's trunk. Or, trying to.
Yup...i wuz wonderin why those cuts were so close....if nuttn else alot of chunks..alot of work fer sure..
No idea of the age. It was a monster. Got about 3 cords out of it even though I left some chunks in that hole, some un splittable crotches, and about 1/2 cord for the homeowner to burn in her fireplace. Here's the best pictures I have of the tree. As I said, some of you have seen the story elsewhere, but the new pictures haven't gotten much attention over there lately.
My buddy made the cuts with the big saw and 36" bar, but because of bad footing, he couldn't get the big saw in the right place to connect all the cuts. I got underneath and finished it off my my MS362.
That's a huge white oak and precariously placed down that hill - lots of rocks to negotiate as well. 3 cords of WO is awesome, its smells so nice
Quite an undertaking you guys did there. Nice pics as well. Good to see posting over here. Pull up a stump and set a spell.
Welcome Flatbedford 'bout time you got over here! Thats MASSIVE oak.....probably damm near a half cord in that first pic alone! Id love to know how many splits per round.
Thats for sure, as if that size tree was not enough on its own. Good to see you here FBF ! Your pics will get some view time here.
Me too I just did a 3 cord+ red oak and am surprised you only got 3 cords from that girth wise. Red oaks do tower over the white oaks here though. http://firewoodhoardersclub.com/forums/threads/my-green-red-oak-project-is-done.9057/
Nothing like a good challenge and then you get to reap the good benefits, exercise, 3 cords of BTUs, and a job well done, awsome
