So I mentioned the kitchen redo and I said I would post pics. I didn't want to take over the kitchen redo/regrets thread so I made my own. I had originally all oak cabinets which were fine..I had upgraded the counter with a dark Formica one and changed out the sink to a larger deeper one 2 years ago I believe. Cheap upgrade and it served it's purpose. But not really my wife and I's style. So here goes.... What we started with, we did the stainless appliances last year.
Let's skip to what the kitchen looks like now with newer style cabinets and Quartz counter being installed. Here is how the install went down....these guys were very professional and one of them was a perfectionist....it was awesome.
Shopped around for countertop colors and edge profiles. We had a few local company's in our county that we looked at. We did find a stone company called Silestone. I kept that in mind and stopped by lowes. What do ya know they had it, cheaper of course then local company's. The guy said the local stone places sign up with lowes and because of volume they reduce it so lowes can make their cut. The next day I was sink shopping and stopped by HD. What do ya know, they had the same one also. Special buy price which was cheaper then lowes. I had a lowes credit card I wanted to use to save another 5%. Went back to lowes and manager matched and beat price even though they normally don't because countertops are special order.
I did find the company Blanco to make excellent quality sinks in the past so I looked through there selection. We were getting a "free" D shaped sink but we just did NOT like the faucet mounted on the side. Also from a design standpoint I don't think that shape fit our kitchen anyways. I found the biggest sink to fit in our base without any modifications. Funny how when you ask "professionals" they want to sell you a 23" sink for a 30" sink base. I went with my knowledge and bought an odd sized but great for me 28.5" sink. The installer had installed a block of wood on each side of sink for it to rest on, then used premade mounts and holes that were done at the shop for front and back mounting. No problem mounting that sink at all. Do not let sales people change your mind! Do your own research to get what you want.
I looked at a piece of the Silestone for our bath vanity. It is nice looking stuff, just not a good color for our space. The countertop guy said the stuff is super durable and actually moves back in on the cutting tools binding saw blades
Thanks, I did all cabinets, used all pull out features insides, corner carousel, lower corner double pull outs. Also used drawers inside drawers and drawers behind doors. Did new style knobs, actually had to custom make 3 because they didn't offer the knobs in 12". Appliances we did last year, umm oh new faucet and air switch. Trying to decide on backsplash tile tonight.
Funny you say that, my wife is shorter so no problem but the installer kept hitting his head lol. We actually were looking at it and talked about removing 1 rod from it to bring it up. It will look better, what I can't fix is the original install of the box which is a few inches off center. That electrician had a bad visual of center with window lol.
Could have been a rafter over center? You could move it, if you're not scared of a sheetrock patch. If the hole is on a rafter use a pancake box, if not the round remodel boxes with ears will support a pendant fixture
Very nice, I like the modern look. We do houses and use concrete countertops in the houses we do. Can make them any color and it has become something we do in our houses. This pic was mid project but shows the concrete counters.
You must have been pretty happy with the old kitchen layout. Looks like somebody got some nice oak cabinets out of the deal.
After playing with a few different layouts, the original was the most functional. Monday I decided to install a mini bar for myself to organize my supply lol
