    I am new here so I may be in the wrong place but I'll start here. We are considering buying a Kitchen Queen 380. We are wondering if we will get creosote build up in the chimney when we have to control for a slow burn. We burn mostly 2 year dry hickory and red oak. Right now we have a 1942 Round Oak cook stove and we have to be so careful to burn it hot every day to avoid creosote build up.

    I am sorry but I can't help you on your post, but maybe Scotty Overkill may have some insight? He seems to have some knowledge on stoves.

    No specific model knowledge here either, but in any older "pre EPA" stove, low and slow usually means creosote.

    My only heat source is a Kitchen Queen 480, capable of heating 3000 s.f. and we only heat 1880 square feet with minimal creosote.
    It's not the stove that creates creosote it's mostly the chimney and how you burn it.
    Do you have an insulated inner flue? Insulated chimney? The key is keeping internal flue gas temp above 250* all the way to the top when smoke is present.
    I reduced to 6 (it is a 7 inch outlet stove) and installation instructions were adamant against reducing with these stoves. I had a good conversation with Dwane the builder before doing it and modifying the stove. I added a thermostat to allow it to burn coal as well. They have recently been retested and passed with 6 inch, so the oven works fine reduced.
    When you open oven door for extra heat overnight, do not open until your temp on the pipe is in the normal range above 300*f. (with an insulated flue) There is always a certain amount of circulation around oven and the cooling of the oven walls will load it up around and under oven. This adds to chimney formation as well. Took me a while to learn that. I clean once during the burning season and at season end. We have a summer grate and use it all summer as well. (cooktop only) You can open bypass and clean from bottom up, so it's very simple.
