20140913_144956.jpg It's been raining steady all day. Now that the deck is done with the painting, I brought up the kindlin to the deck, (around a face cord, which I definitely won't go through) to clear out some of the wood shed for this year's splits. After the shed is full, I'll be moving what's in the woods to the racks for '16/'17

Nice planning W.S., once we get everything ready for the burning season, it will warm up.

Nice work. That's a lot of kindlin! Just started raining pretty good here. It's been an annoying mist almost all day.

Rain moved out of here this morning but left some chilly air. Sun shinning now and a bit warmer.

Woody- that's how it goes. I'm ready to move wood tomorrow. Upper 60s will be nice to work in!:)

Smokin- yea, there's a lot there. 1 rack should get me through both ss, with plenty to spare for next year. Looks like you were spared rain all day, even though I'm sure you need it. After this front, the mercury will drop, and wood will be burning.:)

Sinng- Appreciate that! I think your sending cool weather too!;)

NY- Pine kindlin is good stuff :axe:

BWS- That rain will definitely boost your crops. Pressing apples this year?

Not going to do much pressing this year as there are very few apples to be found. I'm hoping soon someone might be selling deer apples cheap and I'll pick up a couple bushel. We had to try out the new setup with the motor on the grinder so made just a little bit so far.

Lots of rain last summer= good yields (at least around here) this summer, first half was rainy, last half dry. Lots of nuts again though. Cider is yummy!

I think it is because of the year we had last year. Everybody's trees were overloaded and we could not press all we were offered! So, such a heavy yield no doubt had some stress on the trees and they need a year to recover. Hopefully next year will be better.

Funny you should mention kindling. I worked on my kindling today as well. I use construction scraps (cut-offs) and use the mitre saw to cut them to length. Then I split them once with the maul and stack it. I'm not familiar with face cords but I have a 10' long by 4' high row of kindling for this year, most of it going to shoulder season use.

Just "looks right" to have the porch loaded with ready to burn wood surrounding a log chair (?) .
    Great picture !

My IS- Seems many here today worked on kindlin.... the cool air gets our gears turning.:)

Dave- I'm glad to get it up there! Yes, it's a log chair with a storage nook in between. It's nice to have seating in between stacks!

Love that chair. My girlfriend helped me sort out a few bins of kindling from my splitting junk pile, while I split and stacked locust most of the day. Hoping to have all of that cleaned up tomorrow. Don't know what I'm going to do then?? :hair: I got a couple neighbors that might have some stuff for me to split!!:axe: :loco:

Shawn- Thx, I need to start collecting splitter tailings too... I always end up raking the stuff out of the way. Nice your gf helped. Wood processing, enjoyable as it is, is hard work. Any help from others is a bonus!:axe:

Dave, You are correct. Beer has made its way in a mini cooler in that nook already.....

Chv- Pine makes great kindlin. Brings a cold stove up to two in a hurry! Smells great when splitting.:tree:

Cert- Would you expect anything less than a lot from a hoarder?
