As per my previous post. I received a really wet chord of wood. I was wondering if anyone might be able to recommend a reputable company in Long Island that supplies kiln dried. Also any ideas of what it should cost.

    Welcome to the site!!

Great wood, well packaged, delivery on-time..... BUT, bring your first born to pay for it!@!

$685 a chord for "regular hardwoods", plus a delivery charge anywhere from $30 to $50 usually. Hardwoods are listed as: Ash, Beech, Birches & Maples

But last year I ordered some to try out, and a lot of it sure looked like Sassafras.

If you don't mind me (us) asking, what did you pay for kiln dried wood so neatly packaged?
and what hardwoods did you get in the delivery?

See my post above. I ordered it last winter really just to try out. I was getting a bit low on "seasoned wood", and said what the heck.... I ordered 1/4 cord of hardwoods. It came in 16 bags which are pretty nice, you can carry them right up to the hearth. What I didn't like was they cut at 15" or 16" (I prefer 18 to 20 for my PH), and much of it was closer to 14". There was what looked like a lot of Sassofras in it as well.

But it's nice to get it delivered to the door, prepackaged, and very dry.

Sassafras has relatively low fiber density. Which translates to low chemical energy per unit volume, low heat/cord IOW. At those prices, a rip-off.

Or in less technical terms, sassafras gives off less heat than other woods, and is not normally sold as a "hardwood" or premium firewood.
