Does anyone have any experience with Kentucky coffee tree? I was cutting along a field creek and came across a dead tree. At first I thought it was elm, but it splits easily. I started looking at others around it with the same bark and they have large seed pods in them. After some Google research I'm positive it's coffee tree. I've never burned any. It is a very nice colored wood. I will try to get pictures today.

If it's the one I think it is we used to call it the Bean Tree--huge is it? Big broad plate-like leaves? It grows fast and loves the wetland areas....

I think you're referring to Catalpa

The sun came out and heated the field up so I didn't drive out and get a bean pod. I will next time it freezes. That might be a week or so.

Yes they look like the one you have pictured, but that one looks small. Hard to determine scale, I guess the grass could be wide. These are the size of a child's hand. When you look up at the trees, many are still hanging on the branches.

Kentucky coffee tree is a lot like honey locust. Definitely worth getting! Looks to me like that's what you have there.....

We did a monster coffee tree several years back. It was an absolutely beautiful tree, that was planted by a traveler at an old inn along the river. It was getting bad and needed taken down...

If you look close you can see the old fella that owned the property in he one pic....
