I traveled down to a K-mart that is closing and found some pellet fuel. They are 40lb bags; two pallets maybe five feet tall; not sure as I did not measure. Someone might could make an offer on the whole lot and maybe get a good deal. I don't know anything about the price of pellet fuel. Located off of US 220 in Rockingham County, NC.
Yes, and I think I saw them at Sam's Club in Augusta ME for $225/ton. But these are Penningtons. I would need them given to me if I am to use them.
Seeing this I took a pic of this post, rushed on over to KMart...here they are ON SALE for $6.99 (reg $7.99), about 8-10 bags left and they would not budge off $6.99 even seeing the pic so needless to say they still have the same number of bags left as when I walked in and at that price they would never sell me a bag of pellets!
This shop is one of the ones shutting down; so they are trying to move everything out. That is probably why they would not match the price. The K-Mart in Martinsville has already shut. I tried to get a manager at that store's closing to drop the price of a LCD television that was one of the few display models left (I still only have CRT TVs). I explained that the display TV was used, it had been sitting playing continuously for who knows how long. She wouldn't deal with me so I left it.
Tractor Supply is showing the cheapest 40 lb bag at $5.29. I posted in case someone wanted to call and make a deal, like buying the lot for $2.00 a bag.
K-Mart flew the coop around here long ago. No more blue light specials and getting run over by little old ladies wanting deals on waffle makers. One of the Sears stores (same company that owns K-Mart) left around this area is closing soon. I figured I'd better take some of my broken Craftsman tools (3/8 ratchet, two sockets and a screwdriver) in for exchange before they close. I was told that they can't exchange them because the location is closing. It'll be cheaper to throw them out than drive all over trying to find a store to exchange them. Service like that from a dying company makes me appreciate the ma and pa hardware store in town.
Sears and Kmart will disappear; which is actually a bad thing. Ace Hardware is carrying Craftsman but I don't know about the return policy; the policy changed a few years back saying that you had to have the receipt; use to be that the Craftsman name was the receipt. They argued that people were buying used tools and returning them; however, that would only be a very small percentage of those that returned tools. I have a few that need to be replace but even with Ace Hardware I guess it will be no go. Sears don't understand; if I was running the show I would have dropped the soft lines and kept the tools and appliances and garden etc. You can buy clothes at JC Pennys; until they go, and Macy's, until they go but there was only one place until now to get Craftsman tools and equipment. After Christmas the tools at Sears was all but sold out while the racks of clothes looked untouched. The quality of Craftsman was already dropping, when Sears goes bye bye, I don't think I would even consider buying their hand tools. My friend brought one of their ride on mowers and it has been nothing but a headache.
Returned for money, or returned for replacement under warranty? I agree with not returning for money. I used to be a tech in a shop and had quite a few Craftsman tools...most I had bought used. The 3/8 ratchet held up well until it started getting rough and slipping a tooth occasionally. No problem right? Wrong. The warranty replacement lasted about a month...as did the second replacement...the third one broke the same day! I took it back and demanded a brand new one (they had been "rebuilding" them) they said no, rebuild kit only. (they said I was abusing them with a cheater bar to have broken it the same day...but I had not!) I raised a stink until the manager gave me a new one, and then he told me not to come back...and I didn't. I traded it in to the Snap-On dealer the same day, and I still have that very Snap-On ratchet to this day and its been ~25 years now. And the Crapsman quality has slipped even more since then too!
Hard to say if they will hold out on that price - like they did last year - and ended up having to sell off last years supply THIS year at $99/ton
It wouldn't surprise me if this one doesn't close...actually surprised it hasn't already...and Sears too.
Unfortunately, those ma and pa hardware stores are few and far between anymore, and mostly because of the mass merchandisers and the folks who want to support them......sad.
I didn't know Ace carried Craftsman. I'll have to check that out next time I'm there and see if they could swap my broken stuff. I spend a lot of time in northeast lower Michigan in the summer, and there is an Ace up there that is the only choice for about 35 miles, and their prices reflect it. It's go there and pay the price, or drive 35 miles south to Alpena and hit Home Depot. I've got a great ma and pa hardware store three miles from my house. Their prices are a bit higher, but the extra price is worth it when figuring in the time and fuel saved not driving to the box store 20 minutes away.
Hard to believe Lowes has put anybody out of business what with their puke service and selection...#not a fan. They were much better 20 yrs ago IMO...I suppose they tried to maximize profits for their investors, hired some crackshot CEO and...well, we all know how it goes from there.
I can chime in. I worked for several years at Sears Hardware. People were buying tools at tag sales, flea markets, estate sales, etc, and returning for NEW ! Pure fact, I witnessed it. I watched commercial businesses coming in every few months with literally carts of broken tools( Hand, shovels, rakes) and exchanging. I was preaching how we exchanged more than sold, and it would run Sears into the ground. BTW: Guess how many people thought Snowblowers and Lawnmowers had a lifetime guarantee ? Its says Craftsman on it
