Well guys a couple weeks ago I bought a ms180 that ran very poorly....I paid $40 for this saw that has a 14" B&C, a ms180 carcus for parts, 4 good 14" picco chains,2- extra 14" picco bars, and 3-20" RM chains for my ms362 that have never been re-sharpened.....I was happy with this deal anyway!!!! So I get home start the saw and as the guy says, saw runs but poorly.... So into garage I go, take off muffler and as suspected, piston is scored pretty badly..... So I get on the net, and start looking at parts, and decide to just get a whole engine assembly....I find a decent looking AM engine and get it shipped to my door for $48....well after some cussing I get this "clamshell" saw apart....I put the AM engine in and she fires right up for me.... I have now ran about 2-3 tanks of gas threw the new engine, and she seems to run great..... I have cut some 10-12" ash and the saw actually cuts threw it pretty good..... I thought I was goin to sell this saw, but my CAD is telling me to keep it, I mean it is a very light saw that would be just perfect for limbing......anyway not the most exciting rebuild, but was fun for me none the less!!!
Oh I meant to also ask if any of you guys have put any of these AM whole engines in any of your saws, and how have they ran, and do they last very long.... Also I will double check when I get home, but I think the spark plug has farm tec wrote on it, does this obviously mean that the whole engine is a farm tec brand.... Thanks a lot guys Kyle
I tell you the real truth everyone like to use OEMS the only reason that they dont is the COST , everything else that you will hear , that the AM is similar to oems is just bull...........
For a 180 I can't see the reason to go OEM as you would never see your money back. Cut wood, that is what it is all about. The chains alone made that a good deal, the saw was the cherry on top.
Lol cnice_37, that is EXCACTLY what I was thinking when I did this deal.... And that is EXCACTLY why I wanted a cheap fix.... I figured if I could get this saw going for cheap, it would be a win--- win....so yes I fell I did very well on this one!!!!!" And yes, I knew if I spent very much money on OEM parts, I would be in the whole REALLY fast....
Nice job on the rebuild. Now mod the muffler and slap a wt 215 carb on there for mo powah!!! Whole new machine. Did you figure out why the piston was scored in the first place?
Yes sir, I can 100% agree with you 99% of the time.....any time it is REASONABLE to go OEM I would buy them.....but when it is a cheap saw I can see these Chinese engines as a reasonable option.... That's one of the reasons I was wanting peoples input on these whole AM engines....
Well judging by the way this fella took care of his stuff I would say old or bad gas... Good thing another the whole engine is it replaces seals and all.....
Scoring like that us usually caused by some sort of lean condition. Might be worth going over the carb. I'd hate to see you wreck a new motor.
Hey I will do some research, but do you or any else know how much a fully adjustable carb would be for this saw....and what would be the best brand to get, I mean granted this is a AM engine, but seems to be working good at the moment!!!!!
If your carb has both a H and L adjustment screw, I would leave it be. The WT-215 swap is a great mod for saws that do not have a H adjustment screw.
It looks like it scored from carbon buildup/crud around the impulse pipe. The intake boot covers the impulse pipe IIRC?
I agree specialy with cheapo saws , i just tell that the peoples know the oems is better but sometimes the crazy cost of them make us to use aftermarkets
The oems carbs go about 50 -60 euros here better look on ebay- amazon there you can find with 15 -20 aftermarkets they work good , i have listen good words for them
Have you ever think how much fuel must a carb send to the engine for saying that this carb is a perfect working ?
Well guys I can't wait to get this saw broke in good, and take her into the woods and run the heck out of her....who knows hopefully she will last a good while!!!' I have a old 290, and if and when she ever does completely die, I may get the 390 engine assembly, and rebuild it too!!! Anyone here put a 390 motor in the 290 body????
