Hey guys had a guy I know come look at my 89 f250 with a 351M firewood truck, as she won't start for some reason... Always something....anyway I seen my ol buddy had a johnsered power head in the back of his truck, and since he knows I like to mess with saws he said put it in your garage lol....well I asked him about it and he said he did peek at piston and it is scored.... He obviously couldn't start it because of this.... Anyway my questions would be, is this saw worth fixing, will I be able to find parts, will I be able to easily find a piston and possibly a cylinder for a reasonable price??? If any one has this saw and can tell me anything about it I would be very grateful, as I have never messed with johnsered, but would like to get this one running....thanks aLot Kyle!!!!
Well it looks like it is a 50.9cc saw. There seems to be some used parts around for it. As to it being worth fixing really depends your needs for a 50cc saw. If it has a scored piston and cylinder you still have to find out why. That could lead to replacing the seals and maybe some other things. It can also be a good project saw and maybe do a little experimenting with it. Have some fun with it.
Magcraft, you are excactly right sir..... I couldn't resist to look at the piston last night before I went to bed, and damm it looks like hell.... You all know more than me but looks straight gassed to me... The ring is completely gone..... I will get piston pics tonight.....I am watching my little 10 month old little angel as today and tomorro are my days off work.... So when me lady gets home I will pull the cylinder and have a look, hopefully cylinder can be cleaned..... As far as do I "need" a saw, absolutely not, do I have a saw addiction, and feel the need to get this ol redhead going, very much so!!!! Anyway I don't like threads without pics myself, so without further ado her is my redhead LOL.... Oh one last thing does anyone know if this was considered a pro saw or a homeowner series.... Thanks a lot Kyle
Just one look. Is it a split case saw or a clamshell. The split case saws were usually pro saws. On the cylinders you never know until you clean them up some to see if the plating is good or not. I had a Stihl MS460 I thought for sure the cylinder would clean up but I was wrong. So you never know.
