Want to open up a trail through the pines (for taking tractor through) and needed to take down a tree or a couple of trees. Could have done with one tree but that would have been just a little tricky and taking down 2 other trees looked easier and would be a straight shot going through with the tractor so decided that was the way to go. Only got one down so far as there were a couple interruptions today but that is fine. So I got it down then cut into log length and hauled them out on the dray. Forgot to take those pictures... Sometimes I'm terrible with picture taking... I might take the other one down yet tonight but most likely tomorrow. EDIT: Yes, even got the ornery one on the tractor today.
Actually I think I'll be using the logs to stack wood on as I really don't need the pine firewood right now.
I always enjoy building trails through my wood lot for the tractor, and I think you made a good choice cutting two trees to make a straight trail. Straight trails are nice for a tractor in the woods, lots of bends in the trail doesn't work quite as well when pulling logs.
Just cut the pine into rounds and if you ever have another GTG, chances are you'll find a couple nice ladies that will split and stack it for those signal fires you guys make down there!
Backwoods Savage gotta get some forks soon Is that bucket quick attach or pin on? Mine was pin on and I had to do some fabrication to convert
It is a quick attach and yes, we do plan on getting a set of forks as they can come in very handy. Not yet decided on what size to get but I'll probably get some short ones.
Got the second tree down but still need to haul it out of there. I'll wait for a cooler day as it is getting uncomfortable out there. So I put the tractor and atv away and turned on the air conditioner.
I've got 42" the price for 48 jumped up a lot so 42 is good for me to get extra height I even put them on upside down at times! I couldn't live without 'em. For moving wood around they are priceless keep finding new uses. Lift rider mower to change blades and belts Work platform I try to put everything on pallets now
Backwoods Savage , was thinking of you with the long straight pine trees Might try something like this. Will limit bending and rolling log to finish cut Not my tractor but I tried it and really worked well!
Actually worked really well. I wouldn't drive with it and tree has to be smaller diameter. I guess bigger tractor bigger diameter Must have hook on top of bucket too
Tried this before I had my forks. Small diameter trees only and worked well With forks you can lift BIG logs and cut them easily Forks will allow you to carry logs back to processing area but log length is limited by trail width.
