Pulling some shelved saws out for a spring mild mod build. Both are ugly saws, looking to build another hot limber/small wood saw. Do a 346NE aftermarket build off a blown up 2150 jubilee or 2055 top end on a EPA 2054 49 cc saw (currently a good runner). What's your vote or opinion?
I wouldn't put a 346 top end on a plastic cased saw (2150), but that's just me. I think you'd be better off starting with a 2152.
346 - but make sure to install the optional muffler bracket. They have a known issue of rattling the 2 bolts loose and burning a hole right through the case/oil tank.
i put the copper RTV on the threads and split or star lock washers on the bolts. yeah belt and suspenders but seems to help. David
Yup, makes for a good hole in the oil tank, I've had a few 2150/350 cases come through in the past with some nasty burns to burn through. Well back to the shop to prep for taking down a few dead standing red elms this weekend. The 2171 28" skip, 2065 24" square full comp and 036 18" semi chisel are on this weekends lineup. I have smaller saws and larger but cannot help using my go to lineup.
Yup, I did a bad thing. I found a 346xp NE and bought it today, ugly but complete. Still not abandoning the ugly jred build, but at least now I will have a test saw to compare against. (Apples to Apples) I know I know everyone's been down this road before with this class build, I'm not out to prove anything. Excited to own one of these saws, worked on them and ran em but never personally owned one.
