The secondary assembly on the Jotul Castines sit on top of the inner side plates. There is a small, flat gasket that sits near the top of each side plate in which the assembly sits on. A few weeks ago Well Seasoned had an issue with the gasket sliding out. I believe he just pushed it back into place. When I rebuilt my stove earlier this fall, I replaced the flat gaskets and used the self-stick adhesive to set them in place. Just the other day, I had the one on the right side slide out. I pushed it back into place a few days ago, and it is already out. I believe that the heating and cooling cause expansion and contraction causing it to work its' way out. I will se how long this repair lasts. I let the stove go out today and pulled the secondary assembly out. I cleaned the little ledge and put gasket cement down, and reset the gaskets on each side. I let is set for about 15 minutes and put the secondary assembly carefully back in place. The total repair was less than 1 hour. The assembly can be difficult to lift in and out. It takes a little coordination to maneuver it in and out of position. The tabs are pushed back into place on the assembly to hold it in place.
Jon, Mine are so, so. They are doing the job, but will get replaced in january, when I will sweep the chimney. Smart thinking using the cement. There is definitely expanding and contracting going on. Besides for the levers that slide aside, do you have 2 bolts in the center that hold the plate in place too? Also, I know the gasket is quite thin, but around an inch wide. Are yours similar? Nice work!
