A few weeks ago I was cleaning the Castine and I noticed two holes on the doghouse that is over the primary air slide plate. I mentioned this to Well Seasoned and I took these pictures at my first chance. I haven't really figured out the airflow through this stove yet and there is no mention in the manual that I can see of keeping the area free of ash buildup.

Cover removed lower half of the two holes.

Does anyone know what this bolt does under the cover? I was thinking it was a restrictor for the primary air plate to prevent it from sliding a certain distance over. It does not seem to touch anything that I can tell.

The area where the slide plate is vey clean. I dropped a little ash down there taking the cover off. So this makes me believe that air is pushed/pulled out the holes.

I am aware of those 2 holes allowing air into the firebox. This is where I see the air burning away at the wood closest to the doghouse. There is also 2 tabs there to prevent the wood from touching and blocking those holes.

As far as that bolt goes, I too thought it was to prevent the air lever block from going too far one way.
