Okay I am thinking about taking out our zero clearance fireplace as we don't use it only about twice a year. I really like the looks of the Harman Accentra 52i insert which I believe you can get in a zero clearance?

If so I have a few question:
    1: Good unit? Any cons?
2: Will it fit? I have a 45"w by 34"tall opening to work with, would like to retain the current marble and mantle
3: Venting? I think my windows are to close to meet code. Can I go up thru my current chase probably 25 ft.? Or up part way and then out?
4: What would be a fair price for this new.(just the unit) I don't want to get taken but I realize the dealer has to make money also.
5: Where is the credit department here in the pellet room?:)
6: Are there any secret hand shakes?:)

    Thanks in Advance

The Harman 52i is a good unit, But it is a bit pricey. Another unit to look into in your search which should compete very well with the 52i is the Enviro M55 cast insert. I think there was a zero clearance version available. But can't seem to find it on their web site.

As for the windows. You should be fine if you use an OAK as they cut the 4 foot clearance to around 18 inches IIRC. Or extend the vent to 4 feet above the windows could also be an option.

Some of the more knowledgable folks will be around to help shortly. What ever you choose, Be sure to look at the rail kit for ease of removal. A tip is you can make your own and save a few bucks if money is tight. Keep us posted on what you find! :)

Is 4 feet above a window the correct clearance? Most of the stove manuals I have read have that clearance for below and to the sides....but above is 12"

You are correct, 12 inch above window or door opening is the spec distance.

Guess I'm still under my brew quota! :emb:

As our house has a wrap around porch I am limited on my clearances. The living room floor and the porch floor are at the same level and the ceiling on the porch is about 18 inches from the top of the windows. I will see if I can find a picture.

How about going up and then out of the exterior chase?

Jay, was this what you needed to see? It's in the regular owners manual:

Welcome Gary. Us pellet burners are friendly folk......just install some form of pellet burner in your home, and you're in.......no secret handshake needed (besides the obligatory pics of the finished install, or even step-by-step pics.......just so we know it really happened).

Oh, btw, if you like BEER, you'll make a LOT of friends here. LOL

Well, there are "dues" involved that get sent to our Secretary and Treasurer.....we'll cross that path once the stove is installed ;)

You might be able to also get a free standing unit in there , easier to clean and maintain IMO just my 2 cents :)

It would cost a little more in piping and detail parts, But it should be an option.

Thanks for the input guys! I liked the looks of the Enviro also! Anything we do would have to pass muster with my wife as far as looks. Anything else be dammed!:)
If we do it we would probably be doing a summer install. Is that a better time to buy?

My dealer had a Christmas in July promo when I bought back in 2008. I won a ton of pellets and the stove included a ton. Also had half price venting during that time.

Both the M-55 and the new Accentra 52i are both nice stoves :)

If you removed the whole fireplace? You could install a freestanding stove. Would be easier to service, normally has a larger hopper? And you could make the Hearth into whatever you wanted? Unless you wanted to leave it alone.

Either way, if you like your wood stove heat, you should LOVE a pellet stove. My wood stove is nice, but I consider it supplemental heat. Where pellets are my Primary. I would never give up my pellet stoves. Even in dead of Winter, I load once a day. Even a Blaze King King can't do that when you need a high burn and it can't keep a constant temp and regulate it 24/7.

Any questions, do not ever hesitate to ask. Many knowledgable people here that want to help and inform you of a good choice.

Actually the fireplace itself is virtually useless for heating! We would like to keep the mantle and the marble tiles. We would probably use it as supplemental heat rather then primary.

New update! The wifey likes the looks of the Mt. Vernon E2 insert and the dealers says it would be an easier install also then the 52i. What few reviews I can find it seems to be a good stove. Anybody have any experience with the E2?

It appears the E2 allows the blower to vary it's output to maintain room temperature?

Smokeshow has a Mt Vernon and can tell you better the Pro's and Cons. :)

But overall they are a quality unit that crank the heat..
