Watching the news tonight and I'm curious about the rest of the FHC world and what anyone is experiencing weather wise. Saw snow in New Orleans and wrecks everywhere. I was busy this past weekend working with my brother framing the walls and ceiling in the workshop mom just had put up. It just was the frame and steel so it was chilly with the average daytime temperature around the -15° and howling wind. Par for the course in Dakotah Territory in January.
A few pics. We had a propane heater going to take the edge off but in the one picture you can see the moisture from the propane heat condensing and freezing on the wall above me. It was very apparent as we got more insulation up how much easier it was getting to keep it warmer in there.
We are between the big lakes so most times we don't get as cold as others. Many in the states along our southern border are amazed they get colder than we do. I think our coldest during this spell was -5 and hopefully that will be our last below zero this winter. Only time will tell.
We are setting at +3 currently. 20 miles inland from Lake Michigan. We got more blowing snow last night and another winter storm warning through Thursday morning.
-15F this morning in Vermont, coldest since 2023 or 2022. Not a very good skiing winter but GREAT for ice sports. Our local lake has a 5mile skating trail. We also went to Ottawa last weekend to skate on the Rideau canals. Highly recommend. ‘Wild Skating’ on Lake Morey | First Light
7 degrees here in south Jersey this morning but it was -2 in the blueberry fields 8 miles away. According to the news (based out of Philly) if you go outside you will basically die! LOL New Orleans got around 10" of snow yesterday which is just over double the amount we have so far this winter. Milton Florida got 9" so they are double us as well...That's kinda crazy.
+3 yesterday morning and +2 at the house today. I’m sure 20 miles away in northwest CT up in the Appalachian foothills it was well below zero. I like it when the weather is like this. It’s quiet and peaceful outside because everyone’s hunkered down indoors. But… I’m glad we only see this weather in short spells, rather than weeks or even months at a time.
I'm chomping at the bit to get outside and do stuff. Looks like maybe tomorrow or Friday it will be warm enough, but definitely next week.
We haven't had a January this cold in recent memory. In the past it's gotten colder for a night or two, but it seems like we've only been above freezing for a couple days so far this month which is pretty rare.
Was -4 degrees in my neck of the woods this morning. Definitely been much colder here than it has in a long time. We sure have burned a lot of wood for January.
It warmed up some here but still 6 forecast for tonight. Looks like we will be on a roller coaster for a while. A day or 2 of warmer followed by a day or 2 cold.
You are not too far away from me. I might try that, I used to love to skate but haven't in years. I can be at lake Morey in 15 to 20 minutes.
