Need help/suggestions on how to carve this guy up. It is the crotch of my neighbors walnut tree. Two trunks grew out of this. Each of those yielded some really nice 14" to about 8" logs. They are under cover in my lower yard. Cut down 4yrs ago, the only way I got it here was by rollling it....slowly, down the hill from her yard to mine. Now the time has come. I am hoping that this will yield some beautiful wood. I don't have a mill. So going to just slice it up as best I can w/chain saw. Thoughts/ideas
Do you know what you want to do with it as far as projects? If you are making boxes, cut chunks out as you go. If cutting into slabs, it looks like there may be some checking set in.
I have no idea what this wood is going to become. I'm thinking I will cut it into ~4" slabs. That way I can do most anything with it. I'm getting away from looking at making boxes out of a solid piece of wood. Too much good wood "wasted". I'm liking making a nice veneer and put it on a filler wood. I have lots of the old oak I can use for filler wood. More interested in the mechanics of how to do this. Probably just put some 1x2 guides on the top and sides and hack away.
