I've mentioned it before but for those who don't know, I don't even have a stove or even a fireplace. I just caught the wood bug young and have loved everything about it ever since. What I don't burn in the firepit and my girlfriends fireplace gets sold to help pay for school. We had a little break this weekend and Monday-Tuesday so I got some work done Sold 4 cords Sunday, and 1 cord last night. All these empty racks in the yard are strange to look at now One of my customers gave me this cart, seems pretty nice and takes a much bigger load than my wheelbarrow Monday was spent trying to get my freakin trailer lights to work (it didn't go well) And building some stakesides for the dodge Finished the day up with the tree crew coming over to take down a dead hickory out front. Gonna get some nice firewood out of this tree Anyways, sorry bout the long post. But I know you guys enjoy reading about everyone's wood escapades . If this rain ever lets up ill get out there and buck up some hickory ... Happy cutting
Great pics. I like the big-wheel cart too. So, the stove is going in....when? Quit selling all that gold! Nice truck. Didn't know Dodge made a "Woodhauler Extraordinaire" edition. Hickory splittin' pics next, eh?
Wood stove goes in when I get my own house And I know, I hate to see the wood go (but love to cash the checks ) Hopefully I can start splitting that hickory soon
That's a sweet cart! Trailer lights eh.... my only advice is don't use the frame for ground, run separate ground wires from the main connector to each light. Outside of that, well, use your DVM and a few beers help add to my patience.
Man that wood hauler was already sweet... Stakesides = gooder! I had a friend of a friend ask about buying some firewood yesterday. Think they were looking for a 'good deal'; unfortunately I have a sentimental attachment to it after all that hard labor I put in. I quoted him a price sort of on the high end of what it goes for locally; but it's probably also on the high end of the quality scale as far as what you'd get elsewhere. Some ash from the tops of a massive standing dead tree, that's been split and stacked off the ground all summer and reads in the teens on the MM. I kinda hope they *don't* bite actually. But if they do, i'll have a nice chunk of change going to my MS660 savings fund!
Man oh man Big...you've got it..and got it bad! Don't even have a stove and you still need your fix by processing wood? Yikes! For Pete's sake, whatcha waiting for? Put a little stove in...somewhere...even if it's just a workshop you have to build! I've seen those carts but always wondered how long they would hold up to the weight of the load?? Truck looks to be in good shape.
Nice truck. I'd like to take a trip down south someday to pick up a truck like that, they don't make it that many years up here. What's a cord go for down there? I've had several people ask if they can buy some wood in the last couple of weeks, couple of them I don't even know that well. Why is it that when you've got a lot of something people think it's for sale? Latest inquiry is from my wife's boss who just happens to be an ex-neighbor so she knows how much effort is in the wood, I split entirely by hand. Luckily she doesn't want much just a little for some ambiance fires in her fireplace once in a while...I don't really want to say no to her.
Dave, down here most Craigslist sellers sell by the "pickup load". ie, overpriced 1/3 cords. I sell a cord for 150 plus delivery for the price of gas. Stacking is extra. Works okay for me. I could probably go up since most people seem very satisfied when I leave. You wouldn't believe the amount of people that've been buying wood for years and are surprised by the amount of wood that is in a cord when I show up. You know they've been being shorted by people saying their truck bed is a cord. I don't do any of that split at the time of the sale nonsense either
Here's all of the hickory that's been taken down so far. Hauled it out back and stacked up the rounds Haven't had much hickory before, it is heavy as heck. The truck was squatting noticeably more than in the pic in the OP. That load got a little more and ended up being about 3/4 cord of dry oak.
Dave, we have a cart that looks just like that one except for color. So far, it has lasted us 35 years so I'd say it has held up pretty well. And yes, we've moved a lot of wood with it along with many other chores.
