Is this ironwood/hophornbeam?

    I cut it earlier this year. Split a bit. Thought it was some sort of maple. But now think Ironwood.

    It sure looks like ironwood to me. I've got it here; you are a LONG way from me. If so, that tree has a wide territory! Tis a very strong tree, hard wood.

    I think so too. Scarce tree around here and doesnt get too big.

    I have to check. I think I only have a handful in my woods. This one I cut down only because it was part of a three tree tango that was blocking my path to the lake

    Yes. Ironwood is a slow grower and does not get really big but makes excellent firewood.
