I would think there would still be some PM chain available, but that PS3 is hard to beat.

There are other chains, of course, but you got a good one.

Ps or ps3 is the most preferred for speed. Pm or pm3 is about all that's stocked around here. One place keeps ps3 on the roll. Of course any 3/8l.p. .050 55dl chain will work.

I would assume He meant the chain on it is the only one for it. When it wears out you need a new saw. LOL:picard:

Stopped at Stihl dealer this afternoon to drop off a chain to get sharpened. Not my regular dealer. He's been closed for vacation since Dec 24th. :hair:
    Other dealer had this chain

That chain is a non safety semi chisel. It will stay sharper longer than the ps but cut slower.

Why the headbanging? You've found two good options, at different dealers.

Good thing I got another chain today. There was a piece of a brick hidden in sticks in the log pile. UHG

You forgot to demagnetize the chain prior to first use - happens to me all the time... Er, wait - guess that wouldn't have helped you with the bricks.. :headbang: Good thing you had a backup! :D

The 'safety' feature is an extra little hump of metal on the drive link next to the raker - it doesn't affect the speed one bit. Supposedly it's not quite as good for plunge cutting, but I don't do much of that anyway. Non safety PS might be hard to find at small tractor type dealers, but they could probably order it. Full chisel non-safety would be 63PS55. Both of the chains you have will cut firewood just fine though, as long as you don't hit any more bricks! ;)

I need to get a file to touch the chains up periodically. do both of these chains take the same file?
Now I gotta check out the chain sharpening thread:dex:
I'm sure I can dull sharpen a chain with a little help from a tutorial.
that youtube vid of the girl in the white fuzzy boots was a good "how not to sharpen" a chain video. :picard:

Look on the chain boxes. Each box will tell you exactly what file to use for that chain.

looks like all the 63p use a 5/32 file at 30* except the pmx at 10*

The PMX is ripping chain. You don't have to worry about buying that stuff accidentally.
