In the next 5 to 7 years all Stihl Pro. Chainsaws will be FI no Carburetors.

I think Stihl will do away with the weakest link in chainsaws today, the use of Carburetors and all their Pro. and many of their Farm&Ranch chainsaws will be Fuel Injection.

This will be a major step forward with easy starting better use of fuel during cutting, and more dependable saws.

Was not under the impression that the carbed Stihl chain saws had a weak link, my one saw was bought in 79 and has always started easily even after sitting all winter in a some cases.
    I suppose they burn cleaner.

If they here in the USA have there way and i think you know who they are, that could be very true.

But for now the world wide plan of Stihls German Engineering, is Fuel Injection in Stihl Pro. gasoline powered chainsaw's.

Huh, guess I best buy a few more carbed saws now then. I pulled my ported 044 outta the dust bunnies Saturday with whatever gas was in it from last use, took it to the log pile & it started on the 4th pull. Bucked two cord of Red Oak with it, blew the dust out, touched up the chain & put it back. With any luck they'll get the bugs worked outta the FI stuff before I gotta go that route.
Edit: Last use was September I think?

There will always be a need for gasoline chainsaws but I don't know how many manufacturers the industry can support long-term. Battery saws are here, always improving and more are coming down the pike. As for consumer saws, they will convert to battery.

Good luck on converting to battery powered chainsaws. I see the prices on battery powered Milwaukee tools and congratulate myself for sticking with corded Milwaukees.

Nothing wrong with carbs. The problem comes when a saw is not cared for properly...neglect. I have more saws than I'll ever need and they all run great. They are also taken care of.

I suppose I just don't want to "take care" of anything as much as carbs require.

Like trying to find ethanol free gas, emptying the tank and running them dry, monkeying with chokes, periodic fuel line changes, rebuilds, etc., etc., etc.

I suppose you are just a better man than me, and anyone else who doesn't like old carb technology.

It could happen. Since I run saws that are 20+ years old, Stihl should have the bugs worked out when I need to pick one up on the used market.

On the other hand in 20+ more years I probably won't be cutting as much wood. Or in retirement I'll have more time to cut wood.

I wonder if these carburetor lovers have noticed that no Auto today and for the past 25+ years has a carburetor , all Autos have gone to Fuel Injection, with the new Stihl 500i we see the new movment in chainsaws using Fuel Injection.

I remember people saying can we trust this new Fuel Injection in our autos, think it was the same ones who did not trust non stick shift gears in their autos.

Trust me in the coming years carburetor s in alll new chainsaws will be history, and it can't come soon enough.
