Saw is a porter Dolmar 7310.

    PO ran a 20" 3/8 .050 combo.
Should i stay with .050 or step it up?

If i think about investing in a 26 or 28" set up, should i go with a skip chain?
Not familiar at all with a saw of this size.
This is my first saw that is bigger then 60"..

I stay with the .050 chain since it is popular on stihls, so you can get a chain at a stihl dealer. I think it should pull a 28'' full comp but wait for someone that know that saw better than me to comment.

Yeah, it'll pull a full comp chain in that length. Even stock. Yes, stay with the .050. way easier to find chain that way.

If that's the one huskihl ported it'll pull a 28" full comp no problem. I like half or full skip for 28" + because it takes so long to file. I'd go with the gauge thats common in your area.

Full comp should not be an issue even for a stocker. For 28" bars my favorite are the Oregon reduced weight, or the tsumura/total reduced weight. I tote my saws around all day though, so any weight reduction is welcome! The tsumura is more rigid if you care. .050 chain is most prevalent here, I go with what is most available :)

I’d say 3/8 .050 would be best like everyone else said it’s readily available. As for full or skip on a 28” I just put a used 28” husky bar (same as Oregon powermatch?) on my 372 bone stock and went with a full skip chain only because of sharpening. It pulls it perfectly fine so I wouldn’t see any trouble with your saw handling it. I had a 24” on the 372 but just didn’t offer the length I was looking for. If it was me I’d get a 20” and 28” if you wanted that range or go just with a 26” as a one bar plan.
The 20” and 24” just seems to close of a gap. I had a 20” on one saw and got the 24 on the other and ended up going to a 16 in place of the 20. :hair:So many choices :D of course then I threw a 6400 in the mix sporting a 20”

    Thats exactly what i just ordered.. a 20 and a 28... lol

Ordered a 20" oregon power match and a 28" power match bar.
Ordered 10 oregon 72DL full chisel chains and 5 Oregon 93DL full chisel chains.

    We'll see how it does.
Found a oak locally thats rather large, cut and laying in a yard. Been delimbed, its just laying there.
Been there awhile, Looks like maybe a rental house thats empty.
Going to see if i cant find the owner and see if i cant "clean it up" for them..

 For the bars and chains and  for the possible wood score!
Up until I met you guys a few years back I had my trusty 55rancher (53cc) with its 20” 3/8 set up and thought I could cut anything and didn’t know better. Now I’ve got a few more saws and boy to put a few more hp’s behind pulling a chain on that same size 20” bar is really something!! The 20 on that will eat serious wood and the 28 will give you that goofy grin we all get, at least I do when you get to have a use for it... :saw::stack::woodsign::dex:

You will be sad with a 20" on that saw unless you chain and gear it correctly. Kevin is a good buddy of mine and knows how to build a righteous saw.

I wouldnt put any smaller than a 24" on there. I keep 24" on all my 70cc, the reach saves on bending.

I like to be over powered.
Im certain i'll be more then happy with a 20" bar for occasional use in the wood im wanting to cut quickly.

You will use the 20" more than the 28."

Oh I will guarantee you will be happy with a 20". You will also be happy with larger. Nice snag.

Got to think also the actual cut length on a bar with the dogs sticking out too. I was surprised I’ve got some big ones on my 372 and my 6400 has the same as that 7310 you’ve got. I just measured and the 372 with 28 yields a 24” cut and the 6400 wearing the 20 is right around 18-18 1/2” cut.
As Redfin says here it might be worth looking into a bigger rim for running the 20 to see what it’ll do :D. From the sounds of it you’ve got a pretty killer saw can’t wait to see a video :popcorn:
