Here in the south the last place you want to be is near a stack of wood unless you like timber rattlers lol.
#1......firewood. Lots of shop time, yard, and garden work. Visiting family. Home improvement. Oh, and FHC time.
Once I get through the logs amd rounds I have cut up it will be maintenance time. Both the skid steer and splitter are screaming for some TLC.
Finish cutting up my logs if i dont do that by spring break then i wanna dig down and work on my firepit area put some stone down
Go fishing, refill my empty wood racks, and then go fishing. When I'm done with that, I'll probably go fishing.
Insulate the garage; buy more woodworking tools/equipment; install new HVAC system in sons home (heating and AC) while ripping out the boiler and system. For starters....
Awe I forgot about going fishing. That will definitely happen. Count my money. Wait a minute, that will only take 30 seconds one day.
There are occasional timber rattlers up this way too, but not as common as your neck of the woods CHeath . I'd say if you can manage an area to work with your firewood then do it. Firewood up in the NE is a year round thing. Scrounging, bucking and splitting happens all the time and theres no threat of the slitherers after October.
I stop all projects during the summer. I hustle and get everything done in the spring and fall. That way I can enjoy my summer.
To many things to list! First is getting next year's wood supply all split and stacked. I hope to have that done by end of April. I have to do an additional 10 face cord for my brother again this year. He's helped me out a lot and this will return favors. I will also concentrate on finishing wife's horse barn trim work like soffit and fascia, then concentrate on some property clearing (trimming up trees and removing unwanted junk and dead trees) , then pasture and trail work after things dry up. Tons of trail work to do. The grass and weeds will soon be a constant chore in the finished areas, and on days off someone has to have a couple cold beers in the evening. You can't be letting those build up too much!
I've been known to split wood when it's way too hot to be doing it. Good thing I have a splitter now, and positively won't be doing anything wood related in the warm weather, except maybe filling the shed up. I'm also going to whine about how much I don't like to mow the lawn. I'm also going to return to my summer career of self nominated Captain of the bbq and charcoal grill. I guess I'm foreshadowing some weight gain.
Warm months bring optimum conditions: I work @ a small used motorcycle shop so I look forward to, well, work! After a 25+ year career in the printing industry, I switched gears last year. My wife became an RN so she inheareted the bread winner status and I'm fortunate to be able to do something that I like to do.
