I'll post pics of the process and results if so. Harbor freight red will be the color, 124gr 9mm will be the projectile.

    Definitely interested!
Also please include how you come up with the proper mix or alloy. I've been thinking of building a large bullet trap and recycling my projectiles.

I went to castboolits site, but that chit was info overload haha.

It's a crap shoot for a proper alloy. That's the beauty of the powder coat. Supposedly you can push softer bullets at higher pressures than Alox, paste wax mixes or conventional wax lube. I've always used alox on cast bullets, I quit using cast 9mm cause I couldn't get decent pressures without leading.

I've been casting 20 plus years and have tons(literally) of Wheel weights in ingots. That has always been my alloy. I have several hundred pounds of dead soft lead for muzzleloader and shotgun slugs. I may try softening up my alloy with the powder coating to get a better "seal" with when bullet is fired.

Tonight we, my son and I, casted up 500+ 124 gr 9mm. I'll give powder coating a shot, for the first time, tomorrow.

Here's a pic part way through the casting session.

Here's some hard cast 00 Buck. Since it's hard, it doesn't deform as much as standard store bought buck. It doesn't fly as well as Federal's Flite control wads, but it does pretty well and is way cheaper. These come out of the mold in a string of three and need trimmed. I guess I could have done a better job staging the chain, I had to crop the pic to meet size requirements.

I used to worry about not only alloy but slugging and sizing for barrels like factory polygonal Glock barrels. I got really good accuracy and minimal leading with just lee alox.....It leaded less than a standard barrel pushing pressure safety.....

With PC, it's super easy, standard size or standard cast without sizing and run any alloy you want.
I've been running pure and a good antinomy alloy and there is no difference besides terminal ballistics. The antimony tends to make the bullet shrink, but coating brings them up to size and never seems to effect performance too much.

It's nice because you treat them like std. Jacketed and don't generally have to have a specific load, they all shoot well.

The harbor freight paint colors seem to vary in quality color to color.

Running the same alloy through the chronograph, pc vs non coated the coated always show better velocity. It's easier to meet power factor with coated bullets.

Pretty much castboolits is THE guide. It's been so many years since PC has been new(it was fun learning with everybody) it's kinda gunked up with info.

Just randomly came across this thread.

Yes I have handloads some and still have hundreds of more to load. I bought mine though. Seem to shoot fine. And not near as dirty.
