Looks like you could use one of these to get the log up out of the dirt when you skid it. MONTANA JACKS QuadSkidder w/Chain Kit
Take it easy it can get carried away 400,000 btu boilers fleet of tractors and yes a bunch chainsaws . Sharpeners . It can really get out of hand . Heat550 Sent from my LG-H900 using Tapatalk
Just curious. Seems that you have an easy time cutting the wood that is close to your tractor as you can lift that end of the log up and place something underneath to keep it up in the air for cutting. The far end seems to be a little more difficult. Could you place the fulcrum and then push down on the near side of the log to loft it up in the air to make cutting the far side easier? Not sure how stable it would be but it seems that you could better leverage the use of your tractor to make cutting easier.
Nice job tractors are awesome tools. I'm jealous though there's no way I could skid a 60 ft log out of the woods at my house. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ive seen your videos before and enjoyed them so thanks for bringing us along for the ride and sharing your wood harvesting techniques. I do much of what you do ie use a chaulk to measure, enjoy nice tidy stacks and generally enjoy my zen time in the woods. I agree with you that it is hard to go for a walk in the woods and pass up some harvesting opportunities. I sense hesitation in your voice that this is the last time for awhile that you will harvest . If you buckle under the pressure of your addiction any time soon we will be here to support you!!
Nice vid. I like your mechanical approach to the process...seems pretty efficient. Firewood, chainsaws, sharp-edged tools....all are some pretty serious addictions. If only there was a support group somewhere....
It all looks good and you do good work. The only place I could offer suggestion is to get those logs out of the dirt when skidding them as that puts dirt in the bark and causes you to sharpen chains a lot more often. It is very inexpensive to build yourself a cheap dray for skidding then you don't have that dirt to contend with.
