Well as most know leoht put up pics of the IBC totes made into firewood racks some years back. Many others have used the same design as well, here's my first load of hopefully many. The old Farmall lifted it well & moved it with ease. Any of you mathemagical types care to give me a weight estimate? 1/2 seasoned Red & White Oak. Pretty good load, almost like power steering on the tractor.
I haven't had much experience with oak but a search on google I found that it's about 730kg per cubic meter (seasoned) so 800kg level with the top of the IBC. So 1800lbs should be in the ballpark. Looks like you have about 2000lbs in that pic. Some of the wood we have down here is so heavy it will not float in water! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
A weight estimate? You were here last December if my memory is correct. So you no doubt was involved in filling some totes and Brad brought them to the house with our tractor. Although there was some ash in the totes, 2 of them were about 90% oak. The tractor moved them okay but it was at the maximum for weight. Our FEL is good for 1050 lbs. So that should give you a good estimate. And also, the hydraulics on the rear will lift more than they will in front. So I have to say you are perhaps 1200 lbs or thereabouts, if that oak was dry. If it was not dry, that is a lot of weight for sure.
That Oak isn't dry yet, has at least another year to go. It was a pretty good load, as you can see in the pic, I've gotta change my center link geometry a bit to get level. I knew those totes we filled at your place were pretty hefty too. I was really pleased with being able to move that much wood with relative ease.
