Just a little skim ice here yet. Here is a few from last year. my daughter hasn’t developed the patience for it yet. Her favorite fishing position:
We don't get much ice here, but when we do I like to haul in a few bluegills and fry them up. Something about them being under the ice makes them taste extra good.
This is the best time of year to eat them. Out here anyway the bluegills taste like pond scum during the warm months.
Santa was good to me. I have a jiffy model 30 that I have had for 10 plus years. I hate it, always have to fuss with it and it’s a heavy mfr. Sayonara! Just need some cold weather.
You'll love it, my buddy has one. The last/only trip we did this year, he zipped 20 some holes (grant it the ice was only 5" thick) on one battery, I'm sure it could of done more. Quiet and no fussing around.. Ice is junk here now too after the warm weather and rain. I was debating getting one of the ones you can just use your cordless drill to run.
My wife and I enjoyed some ice fishing and spearing over the long weekend…even mixed in a grouse hunt along the lake shore woods last Friday after sitting the dark house for a few hours without seeing much. Then on Saturday we started getting some colder weather and then snow into Sunday We ended up with 8 fish over two days (and 3 grouse). We were then able to provide a big fish fry for our friends New Year’s Eve, and have enough fish for a batch of pickled northern.
thanks metalcuttr . The best part is the gathering of friends and family after being out all day. We mixed in a cheese and meat fondues featuring mule deer and pronghorn from our friend’s hunts out west. Then we enjoyed some time around our neighbor’s hearth which is a mass heater that is fired two times a day which keeps their home warm through a long Minnesota winter.
Went out for the first time today. Hit a pond that usually has good action for the kiddos. Im glad I brought the mules.
We do a yearly guys tip to northern NH, the house we stay at is right on the water. We usually fish right there. The ice had a sketchy look to it and the edge was pretty soft. Had to go 20ish miles north to the Canadian border. Found 16 inches of ice and some fish.
What were you catching? Dang crazy winter here the ice has been completely off the lakes here for a week or two already...
Lake trout. We caught a bunch of shorts and a couple keepers. They have to be 18” to keep. There are brook trout in the lake but we didn’t catch any. This is about as far north as you can get in NH. Can see the border crossing facility from the lake.
