We should get Randy to chime in on the porting question. Since saw porting is a completely different set of challenges than bike porting. Question would be if you are going to use a saw engine on a bike, what axioms would you go by to port the engune, bike or saw.
I've been in contact with this seller as the contraption is close to me. I was hoping it was a big ole Stihl saw engine powering it and I figured if I could get it for the right price I'd sell off the frame and keep the saw carcass. I got him to send me some pics and from what I can tell it's an 038. He's unfortunately painted most of the saw black. The close-up pics show a poor paint job and a good bit of rust on the frame. The only part I was impressed with was that he manipulated an aluminum bicycle brake handle and used it in the place of the chain brake handle. So, you just reach down with your right hand to set the . . . um . . . parking break? I would love to ride it only because it would have to have the acceleration of an inebriated snail. Imagine transferring the relatively low torque of a chainsaw to the ground via a 20"+ bicycle wheel! My guess is that the clutch drum would wear out VERY quickly.
I bet once you get up to a decent speed? That it wouldn't be terrible? You would be dogging the pizz out of it. But you would be doing 65 mph!!!
I'll make you a deal Dex - if he still has it after this weekend I'll see what I can get it for and pick it up. Then we'll see what the top speed is!
Hmmm . . . speaking of 090's . . . that would certainly help address my concerns about torque on the bike!!!
