I used another match today, it was the third one this season.

We lit the main stove sometime in October. During the shoulder seasons (fall & spring) we burn it heavily in the mornings & evenings, relighting it each time from the hot embers still in the stove. During the main season it burns hot 24 hours a day.

There was a week in early February where the highs were in the 50s & low 60s a couple of days in a row. The stove went cold. Needed the second match then. Again the last couple of days, yesterday the high was 65F. This evening it is starting to cool off a little, with an expected low in the 20s. At sunset you started to feel it in the house so I went looking for that 3rd match I knew I had somewhere.

It is amazing how quickly you feel the warmth as the stove warms up.

Spent yesterday going to Buffalo VA, as it's been warm recently I let the stove go cold Thursday night.

Had to do a cold start last night.
    :loco:

    I used a lighter though.
    ;)

I use a propane torch lol. Had to use kindling for the first time since fall last night. Usually, I can rake the burnt out charcoal to the door if I choked the fire out, then 20 seconds with the torch and 5 minutes later I can load the stove

None yet in 2019, but I lit quite a few fires last fall. I like burning this time of year because it is more about comfort than survival.

Was considering the other day how few times we've had to start a cold stove this heating season compared to last year. I'm guessing we've had to restart about 65% fewer times this year. Lots of kindling left over so far.

We used to have 2 garbage cans of kindling but for some reason we only did one for this year. But this is our first complete winter with the new stove. As of right now, we some have some kindling left over. Love our new stove.

I haven’t had to kindle a fire since mid October. Shouldn’t be long now though I hope!

I do cold restarts at least once on most days, twice on many days.

Yesterday was our first day of stone-cold stove since a December vacation. Warm but damp outside today, so a small fire got started this morning. We’ll have lots of restarts over the next month.

I'm running low on kindling. Probably have enough left for another 20 fires between what is split, and a few more boards to whack apart. Hopefully, I wont need to have 20 more fires though
