As a lot of you know, I'm traveling a lot now, and winter is here in the places I go. Very shortly, I'm going to have to be dragging all of my winter gear along with me...bib pants, parka, and heavy boots. View me as a turtle. Everything I need, I need to bring with me. There's no corner stores in the arctic. The hockey bag I bought 6 months ago is starting to come apart already......Chinese made junk.

I'm looking for something that's big, and made to stand up to the real world. Heavy metal zippers are not an absolute requirement, but they would be a plus. Having your duffel bag fall apart on you when you're at a remote mine is somewhat of a disaster when you've got $1-$2 thousand in gear to drag around mine sites and airports and it MUST be packed in something secure or you're leaving it behind.

I'm not worried about cost. If something is bomb proof and will last for years, I'm willing to pay for it. Have any of you guys found something that fits the bill ? Something that has preformed beyond your expectations ?

    Thanks in advance guys.

I’ve had great luck with the LL Bean duffle bags. I have a medium sized one the travels weekly with me for work and I have extra large one that stays in my truck all winter. I keep my carhartt coat, bibs and boots in it.

I’ve also got two additional extra large bags that I keep the families snowmobile clothes and helmets in, they are holding up great and they often ride in the clam shell trailer with the sleds.

I think LL Bean still has a lifetime warranty but not sure.

Looks like they did modify their policy a little bit. Full refund within a year, if it’s a manufacturer defect looks like lifetime.

Gooder suggestions so far. You want something with at least 1000 denier fabric. The higher the denier (a measurement of fabric mass) the more durable it will be. Also look for quality ykk zippers. Not sure exactly what large duffle means to you but here are a couple choices that would be very solid examples. I have liked the durability of all the 5.11 gear I have:

    Rush LBD Xray

And the sea to summit has a lifetime warranty:

    Sea to Summit Duffle Bag

The sea to summit bag is probably the better bag given your described usage.

You might look at Duluth Trading Company stuff. I haven't gotten any type of bag from them, but gloves and such are of great quality and durability.

    Here is their warranty policy:
"If you are not 100% satisfied with any item you purchase from Duluth Trading, return it to us at any time for a refund of its purchase price. Simple, unconditional, no nonsense, NO BULL."

Army navy store get a real GI duffel bag.. Every airline accepts them as a policy.. I mean would you want to be known as the airline that wouldn't accept military personnel luggage..

I got a dufflebag from Eagle Creek for years now - cant say anything bad about it. I also got my Dad`s old dufflebag from the navy which is well reliable and my favorite.
