Okay maybe I don't need one but I sure want one. Recently borrowed a friend's Kubota 2901 and have found many, many uses for one. Realistically I do not need one that big, as I am only going to be managing 1 acre of currently improved property. Main uses would be moving /spreading gravel dirt, and mulch, and moving firewood around. I feel as subcompact would be ideal for my needs. Looking at a Kubota BX 2380 or 2680. Front end loader, box blade, stump bucket, and a grapple or pallet Forks. Anyone have any other suggestions, am I on the right track or totally off-base? PXL_20220204_165105197.jpg

New equivalent would be the x700 series or 1 series compact. You might need bigger but this works for me. Front shovel, grapple and box blade. Get it. Your back will thank you every time you use it.

Totally support investing into a Kubota. They are by far the best sub-compact and compact tractors. I thrink you are right on looking for a smaller, BX size tractor.

I have watched a ton have YouTube videos of people working these machines. They are very impressive, but also seem to be pretty expensive. In the long run probably cheaper than back surgery though. I'm not getting any younger either.

I thought about a B series but feared it would be too small. Was going to buy the 3901 but ended up with 3301. Right, now I wish I'd gone bigger... Everyone I've talked with wishes he had gone bigger...

Also, based on what you are saying, "Looking at a Kubota BX 2380 or 2680. Front end loader, box blade, stump bucket, and a grapple or pallet Forks," it sounds to me like you need a larger tractor.

Your back will appreciate any tractor so long as you aren't always fixing something. I can still hear my Judy hollering at me. "You got that tractor to make things easier for you. Now use the $^*^%#!"

Good point on bigger. I have (I believe) realistically evaluated my use and needs. I will have just under 1 acre of flat improved property. This is why I feel a BX would be perfect. Can I reach it's limits, I'm sure I could but I also feel if I go to big I would find it cumbersome at times and might not use it.

I was in the same position , I wanted a tractor probably more than I needed one until I finally broke down.
Now I realize that I needed one more than I wanted one. One of the best investments and a real time and back saver.

I "need" another tractor. A smaller one like a BX to go along with my L3800. In fact I was kicking around selling the L3800 and getting a BX with tiller, blower, mower and loader but my wife talked me out of it with this wisdom..."you will regret selling that and be pizzed off the first time the little tractor can't do what the big one could."
Then she dropped this on me...
"Buy a BX in addition to the big one if you need a smaller tractor".
Now, I haven't done that because id rather buy a SxS for the property over the BX.

All the major manufacturers have offerings in the subcompact world.

Kubota and Deere are probably biggest names in the game, but New Holland(Ford), LS, and Massey Ferguson have very capable offerings. Need to get your rear in the seat and see how their layout is. I used to be a Deere guy but have been moving more toward the MF line as in some ways more capable but lower cost of entry and better ergonomics have me wanting red.

I cant justify a $8k premium for the green and gold, the orange line is a little better but not enough for my checkbook.

    .....mahindra; kioti also.

GrJfer you came to the right place! "Members helping other members spend their money since 2013" :D

With a lot your size, the sub-compact tractor would be your best choice, IMO. HoneyFuzz has one that has proven very capable for his needs.

This is the first winter here at this residence and I realize that my snowplow will not be able to handle the snow removal that I had hoped it would. The snow banks just build up way too fast and then everything gets narrower and narrower. I just had the road commission stop by with a grader and push the banks back two weeks ago....its time for them to do it once again!

Hoping for an early spring here.......:handshake:

Thanks for the shout out on this !
Check out the thread on here that I started awile back about grapples ! Shouldn't be too far down. My Kubota bx2380 has done more than I ever thought it could. I currently have a grapple..tiller..backblade..carryall...brush hog...3 point stump grinder.
Just ordered a 60" standard mid mount mower deck a few weeks ago...hope it comes in this year !

In some instances...going bigger is smart....but to say to always go bigger....I dont agree. Bigger is not always better...and is sometimes more of a hinderance than going too small. My situation....it works perfect ! Bigger would be bad for me. It would take lots of typing to explain my situation....ill just say the bx fits our plan in many ways ! Here's just a few pics...ill have to get some pics of other chores after winter .

Ive been laughed at..criticized...you name it. Then people see what can be done with a small tractor with a skilled operator. I guess unless you have had a subcompact tractor ...and HAD to make it work with no other options.....you just aren't gonna understand!
Good luck with your purchase. Ask as many questions as you can !

Ill 2nd the kioti, it's most of the rest that I question their devotion to the little tractor lineup. I think MF is Agco, a huge world wide ''big tractor" company as is C-NH. That leaves the rest that seem to make small tractors for other companies to put their name (and colors) on.
NOT THAT THERE BAD TRACTORS, but are they going to be around (dealerships) if this doesn't work out for them?
Deere is Deere and will always be there, kubota and kioti built their business around these tractors well over 30 years ago and I believe they build 100% of their tractors (I know kubota does) and don't rely on others to sell, warranty and service them.
A few years ago I was doing some repairs to a kubota front cut (f-2000) mower that we bought used in about 1984-5. The dealer took it in on trade for a commercial mowing company for a new model. I bought a starter, a control lever for the hydraulic deck lift and a clutch along with some other miscellaneous items.... for a machine that was probably 38+ years old at the time! Those parts were the difference between junking the machine and spending $20k+, or not!
We were several years married and I told my wife that this $4500 used mower would be the last mower that we'd need (after going through some junk stuff)
It's still our primary lawn mower.

    I would go sit on 1 or 5! I have a Kubota I’ve had it 10 years 0 problems

sit on 1 HoneyFuzz size that is a workhorse
Then try 1 Well Seasoned size

your on a acre my size with bucket and brush hog on needs almost half that to turn around

I'm on almost an acre myself. Got me a X720 back in '08, Kaw engine and 2wd with hopes it would last me my lifetime. I've used the snot out of it, its done everything I've asked of it. Maybe not easily, but usually I work around it. Its got mowing duties and every thing else in between. The only thing I regret was not getting 4wd and a diesel. In certain situations, it would have been nice.
