Woke up to the sweet sounds of chainsaws buzzing in the driveway. Turns out the power company hired a crew to clear the power lines. They were mostly limbing and clearing the small stuff today, but the foreman told me they had about seven “problem” trees along our driveway that they plan to take down in the next couple weeks. He mentioned ash, birch and a very large poplar were on the list. They will cut it up in firewood-size chunks and leave it wherever I want.

Great news all the way around for me. I'd rather not mess around near the power lines anyway.

Fantastic news!..And welcome btw. Sometimes u get lucky. I find like many things the more I think about wood scores the more they seem to just happen.... sort of like if u start focusing on a number or a type of car your will start seeing it everywhere. Just hope they really cut those trees to firewood length and you don’t end up with with a lot of shorts and cookies. As others here have suggested in the past... maybe offer them a case of beer if they can cut those rounds at 16” consistently for you. Just a thought. Good luck and post pics when those trees come down!

Cant get much better than that Manuel! Yup as Road-side Oak stated the scores will seem to fall into your lap. Great suggestion BTW with beer. Even if they dont buck them to fireplace length, maybe increments of it? Guys around here seems real good at hitting 48". Keep us posted with pics! We like ongoing stories with wood scores!

As long as they get them on the ground is a good deal. And close to home even better.

For sure watch the size. It gets really aggravating when you have to trim 2 or 3" off every log... Then there are the knots as they just do not realize how much easier it is for the wood burner to cut those knots off close to the trunk. But, if you aren't there when the come...
