Was cutting a 20" ash round at my honey hole this afternoon when the saw makes that unmistakable noise when it hits metal...or so i thought, I had different ear plugs in that ive never used before and thought maybe it was me hearing things as the saw seemed to keep cutting when i rocked the bar. I was cutting chest high on a mound of logs and the 20" bar on the 460 wasnt making it all the way thru, couldnt see the other side. I finally pull the bar out, try the next cut and dull as h#@l. A few choice four letter words come out of my mouth. I stop and put on the extra chain. Cut the next round, pull the double log, split it to find the offending piece of metal and nothing. I go back to cut and discover what i hit. Dang, thats gonna take a while with the file! Cant believe i cut that much metal
Not gonna "like" that post. No sir, don't like it at all. Does remind us to keep aware if obstacles both large n small.
The log i was cutting Chaz was in a huge pile of trunks about chest high so i couldnt see the other side of the cut.
I'm not trying to criticize by any means. I guess it came across that way. I remember cutting a log that I looked at twice over, and never saw the stone lodged in the bark until sparks were flying. It happens unfortunately.
never wouldve expected it to be there Chaz . I shouldve pulled out when i first heard the noise! It happens!
Sorry about the chain. Can't like that! Impressive pile of logs though. Even if you lose the chain, the gained BTU's far out weigh any loss!
That was a yard tree! Cursed things anyway. Maple taps, fence, tools, nails, lags, I've hit em all. As stated, more $$$ in btu's than a chain costs. Keep rockin.Oh yea, bullets too.
No yard nearby. I think it was a sign bracket amateur cutter. Old restaurant building. I was just down stairs in the shop and sharpened part of the chain. Only lost one tooth. Maybe 1/2-2/3 meat on it when i hit it. When you do something like that you feel like your not the sharpest tool in the shed, in my case i now dont have the sharpest tool in the shed!
Is that copper JoeinO ? Ive cut non ferrous before and its not as detrimental on the chain. I have some splits with metal i saved...hafta post pics soon.
thats right...forgot that Canadian border VT. Ive driven copper nails into stumps/trees to kill them. An old lady taught me that trick many years ago. She was mad at the town as they hadnt removed a tree that was buckling her sidewalk. She asked me for some copper roofing nails. Looked like apiece of copper tubing in his pic.
