I don’t give up but the 4 way wedge did today. I have a good welder just a few miles down the street. It’s funny this wedge crapped out because the 6 way has probably done 90% of the splitting.

If it’s any consolation a good welder will have that better than new.

I have no concept of welding costs. Curious what it would/will cost to fix that?

A buddy might charge $50...a shop might go double, or as much as quadruple, depending on their rate, what they do to it exactly, and if they grind out/reinforce the other side or not...chances are it's compromised too.

I would charge around $100-120. That weld had zero penetration. I would grind it out, vee both sides and put a good hot bead in both sides.

Poor manufacturing right there. You can see the rusty metal where the weld never made it.

I am anticipating $75 -$100 but I haven't dropped it off yet. Was hoping to over the weekend but it just didn't happen.

My welder would say $20 and keep letting my grandson ride his dirt bike on your trails. Which I would anyway. 14 yo that works at neighbor farm.
Why I never bothered to learn to weld

There's a certain satisfaction in it though...

You want to pay shipping I will weld that thing for you.

I "guarantee" you aren't breaking it when I am done!
I'm in Ct and see you in NJ so shipping shouldn't be too bad.

    Prepwork and welding = free
    Shipping = on you

Thanks , I kind of like fixing things like this.
Especially from what the picture shows and I know I can improve on that.

Not sure how soon it would be needed , might loose some time with shipping but I will knock it right out if need be.
Just trying to help someone here out.

I have stuff I weld. But the stuff I have to rely on like a ramp for loading a 7000 lb skid steer onto a dump trailer….

it goes to the neighbor and I pay him. He cuts me a break by letting me do 95% of the prep work and that makes his work time for me much shorter. He does final fit and finish just before welding.

depending how old that is, I’d contact the manufacturer and say “what gives…”. Painfully obvious that was junk from the git go.

why contact the manufacturer? If that one is a bad product, how many others are out there from the same production run?

Wow that’s an incredibly kind offer! I have never met you but you sir are a good man!! I dropped it off to my guy about an hour ago. He said he may have it ready for me tomorrow. He couldn’t believe how bad the factory weld was as many of the guys in here have commented.

Although this wedge does t get used a lot (25-50 cords at best) it’s a 12yo machine.

Easy fix for sure. Glad you got a local guy with quick in and out.
No problem helping guys out from here.
Some thing like that the biggest problem would have been shipping. Time for me to do it may be a couple hours. The post office that’s a whole different story.
    Thanks !
