Wife-size pieces. Hands down, my wife is a tough girl. Mama bear doesn’t take any guff from anybody. Before she was a stay at home mother, she built shipping crates and drove a large box truck. All that being said, her back isn’t in great shape and the wood stove makes her a bit nervous. She’s pretty good about keeping it fed all day, so long as I bring in pieces she’s comfortable loading. Shorts and chunks are perfect so that’s what I save for her. Oh and yes, that’s my kids’ old Radio Flyer wagon on wood hauling duty tonight
My wife does not have a bad back but the larger heavier pieces she does not like putting into the wood stove it is awkward for her. So, she gets the chunks to feed into the stove or smaller splits.
I get those burn marks several times a winter. The Yukon I run doesn't have a real big door on it. Usually its not too bad but every once in a while it gets me good.
You can make the case that women are like elephants in that they never forget… but they don’t like that comparison much. You could also make the comparison that they’re like plungers because they like bringing up old… Yeah they don’t like that one either
Good man! I do the same. My wife has no problem loading the stove while I'm gone during the day but I can't leave her the "overnighters" that I like. Smaller stuff and non ginormous UGGs are just fine. I make my wife promise to use my BBQ gauntlet gloves for loading the stove. Nobody needs a burn mark, especially my wife.
While I was still working (pre-retirement) and heated with the OWB, I would always have a reserve of smaller chunks that 99 would be able to fire up with. It was a good thing because one year, I blew my back out for about a month! Nothing wrong with "wife sized pieces" (planning ahead)
There are sooooooo many things that stop once a man is married....... I'm not quite ready to suggest getting married is what went wrong...... But boy it's really climbing the problem/cause list at alarming speeds... And slowing that climb is shaving years off my future..... Back to the topic, we all have battle scars here.....forearms from the stove, fingers and feet from splinters, emotional (somebody ssuckedup a hot coal, accidentally, into the shopvac.....which was full of dog fur, and which went unnoticed till the place was rather smoky). but we enjoy the heat enough to plod on.
Not to stay off topic ; but I am actually very lucky to have the wife I have. She supports me 100% and even better puts up with all my crap so thats beyond good with me. Doesnt ask about how many saws I have and I don't ask about her handbags or shoes. 20 years and still going so in todays world that's not too bad. Back on topic. Battle scars , I have plenty of those but none from splitting.
I'm so scarred on my hands and arms that once a lady handed me a note with her therapists phone number.
