It has an old 50mm ghilardano cylinder and the old style intake spacer that mounts top left to bottom right. It has been straight gassed and ruined. The original cylinders are extremely$$$$$. I was told I can use an aftermarket 52mm 268 cylinder and use the new 268 intake spacer and buy the longer intake mounting bolts and still use the stock thilston carb and air filter elbow? The 66 and 268 intake spacers and bolt mounting pattern r exactly opposite
OK, is the serial # tag still there? A few different versions of the 266 were made so, we need to find out which you have. A picture would be great. IIRC you can also use an AM 272 top end on the saw, both the 266 and the 272 use the HS-260-A or S carb. I have a couple 266 parts saws and perhaps a jug. post a picture of the jug it can perhaps be cleaned up and re-used without problem. 266 & 268 are actually a 50mm bore, the 272 is the one with the 52mm bore. All the saws in that family share the same crankcase so my bet would be on a 272XP AM C/P kit, Hyway or the like.
Agree, and the saw would still be runnung if it had not been raw gased! Do you plan to keep it or flip it? Given your sig you don't need another saw, however since you have it this far apart you may want to consider new seals.
Its for my fatherinlaw and has sentimental value so im putting everything it needs. Will the 272 bump power going to a 52mm a good bit?
From the tag the saw appears to be a 1989 model 66. Yes, IMHO the saw will pick up quite a bit going to the 52mm CP 272XP C/P. My suggestion would be a Hyway kit (110$) and a Meteor piston (49$) from HLS. I have used the pistons from the Hyway kits with a Caber ring, however the Meteor pistons come with a Caber ring and a free bearing and are of better quality. If the saw is a gray top that may present a problem using the 272 jug as the spark plug is at a different angle and I don't believe that the 272 orange top will work on the 66. Does this one have a single piece ignition or the older two piece?

Given the above is true, I have a OEM Gilardoni 7 268 P/C here if you are in need of one. Was a take-off from a 268 that was converted to a 272. IIRC Roger '3000FPS' on Chainsaw Repair now has that saw.
Pretty sure if I go with the 272xp 52mm cylinder and piston kit all ill have to change will be the intake spacer and the longer intake mounting stud bolts. Looks like the 272xp top cover will fit but just alil bigger on the rear of cover. Sparkplug mounting hole is the same
